Coventry City are to release Dutch midfielder Bouwe Bosma 12 months into his two year deal.

The 22-year-old joined the Sky Blues from non-league Lewes FC towards the end of the 2017/18 season.

The Liverpool-born player signed a contract with the club until June 2020, with City having the option of a one-year extension to the deal.

But the 6 foot 2 inch tall defensive midfielder, who is described as strong with a physical presence in the middle of the park, doesn't now figure in Mark Robins 's plans.

Asked how the player, who was initially scouted by former head of recruitment Tommy Widdrington - who jumped ship to join Bristol Rovers last season - is developing at City, the manager revealed: “We are trying to get him something sorted out and trying to move him on.

"It’s not going to work out for him here and we’re going to try to help him to get a game but he’s injured at the minute and will be for the rest of the season.

“He’s done his ankle ligaments so I am disappointed for him."

Bosma has had three loan spells away from the Sky Blues, initially returning to Lewes FC for a one-month spell before joining Southport on a two-month loan.
