Ipswich Town dealt major blow as star set to miss Coventry City clash

The Sky Blues remained in the automatic promotion spots in League One after a 2-1 win over Rochdale

Promotion charge in full flow as Coventry City win at Rochdale

Ipswich Town's promotion push took a major hit as they fell to a 1-0 home defeat to Oxford United.

Coventry City's win over Rochdale means they moved eight points clear of the Tractor Boys, having played two games less.

City have the chance to open up that gap even further when they face off against Paul Lambert's side on March, 7.

It's the third of three fixtures against City's direct promotion rivals, a period that could go a long way to deciding which division they will  be in next year.

However, Ipswich are set to go into that game without striker Kayden Jackson. Town's leading goalscorer, with 11 this term, was dismissed in the closing stages of Saturday's defeat, meaning he could now face a three-game suspension.

Jackson was adjudged to have stamped on an Oxford player - with his ban covering fixtures against Blackpool, Fleetwood and City.

Lambert revealed they could appeal the decision, although he hadn't seen the incident so couldn't give a clear answer.

“Yes, if I think there are [grounds]," Lambert said.
