We all love a bit of fast food as a treat at least once a week every now and then, and I can't be the only one who's guilty of neglecting to consider the high calorific value of the burger/chicken nuggets/chips I'm devouring.
But after 27 long years, the time came to face up to it. I needed to delve into the nutritional values of my favourite food outlets' offerings. And what better way of doing it than seeing how much food I could eat at every major UK fast food chain for 2,000 calories?
Here's what you can get from Greggs, Subway, Burger King, KFC, Domino's, Nando's and McDonald's for your daily 2,000 calorie allowance:
Greggs
6 sausage rolls (327 calories each)
1 Sparkling Florida orange drink (10 calories)
= 1,972 calories
Subway
Footlong Meatball Marinara sub (878 calories)
Melted cheese nachos (403 calories)
Spicy Italian salad (314 calories)
Chocolate chunk cookie (220 calories)
Large fizzy drink (144 calories)
= 1959 calories
Burger King
Whopper burger with bacon and cheese (722 calories)
Regular fries (276 calories)
Regular vanilla shake (371 calories)
5 onion rings (231 calories)
6 Chilli Cheese Bites (366 calories)
Sachet of Heinz Tomato Ketchup (10 calories)
Sachet of Heinz Mayonnaise (80 calories)
= 2,056 calories
KFC
Fillet Burger meal (750 calories)
Toasted Twister Wrap (480 calories)
Original Recipe Salad Pot (405 calories)
3 Hot Wings (225 calories)
= 1,860 calories
Domino's
Large American Hot pizza (2,090 calories)
= 2,090 calories
Nando's
Hummus and pitta bread (800 calories)
1/2 medium chicken (577 calories)
Regular Peri-salted chips (467 calories)
Regular Macho Peas (141 calories)
Chocolate frozen yoghurt (91 calories)

McDonald's
Quarter Pounder with cheese (518 calories)
Medium fries (337 calories)
20 chicken nuggets (863 calories)
Cadbury Dairy Milk McFlurry (332 calories)
= 2,050 calories
So there you have it. That's how much you could order and eat for a day's worth of food - in some places it's quite a lot, in others it's less.
In response to our calorie-counting activities, Domino's wanted to share some advice:
"We know it’s perfectly possible to include pizza in a balanced diet. So we’ve developed an online pizza planner which shows our customers how three slices of Domino’s pizzas can fit into a nutritionally balanced menu.
"One serving of the dip, plus three slices of our new American Hot, which is less than 210 cals per slice, is a total of just under 770 cals."
