Northumbria Police are not treating the death as suspicious and a report is now being prepared for the coroner.

Ewan, from Spital Tongues, was profoundly deaf and family and friends had desperately tried to find him after he was last seen in the Heaton area at around 8.40am on Monday.

His aunt Carol Alevroyianni shared the devastating news in a public post on Facebook in the early hours of Wednesday.

She wrote: "Beyond sad to share the news that Ewan’s body was found tonight. Thanks everyone who helped trying to find him.

"Ewan was always trying to put the world to rights and fix our broken society in his utterly unique and innocent way and I thought he’d always be there putting himself in harms way to makes things better - because of course ‘right’ and ‘fair’ often are at odds with norms and rules.

"I just can’t believe we all couldn’t by pure force of will make this a happy ending. Be kinder and speak out for the underdogs .. be more Ewan x"
