These 10 Hair Colors Will Be Huge in 2017

We saw our share of crazy hair color trends in 2016 — from stenciling and hidden rainbows to phoenix hair and sky blue balayage, 2016 was a little all over the place. Looking ahead, 2017 certainly won’t disappoint. We’re predicting some of this year’s fave hues that will remain in the limelight (think: chocolate-mauve and tiger eye) and be joined by some cool newcomers. Keep scrolling to see the colors that will take center stage in 2017.

1. Galaxy: We’ve seen the future and it is bright. Blue, purple and teal FTW! Show off your bold shades with an intricate braided hairstyle.

2. Rose Gold: We’re a sucker for anything rose gold, and that includes hair color. Couple with bouncy curls for a romantic look.

3. Burgundy: Raven-haired beauties rejoice! Burgundy balayage is an understated way to play with color and enhance your natural hue.

4. Cotton Candy: Out-of-the-ordinary shades are all the rage. This sweet dye job reminds us of the carnival treat we always crave.

5. Chocolate-Mauve: Calling all brunettes! Chocolate-mauve locks have been on our radar for a few months now, and we expect them to rule in 2017. For a more office-friendly take on this trend, try incorporating subtle pink highlights throughout.

6. Greenery: Succulent hair slayed in 2016. Next year, it’s all about greenery (the official Pantone color of 2017). With a color this bright, a shorter cut works best — longer locks could risk looking too Halloweeny.

7. Caramel: Delicious caramel highlights add warmth and dimension to chocolate locks. Soft barrel curls give this a polished look that works from the office to after-work cocktails.

8. Magenta:Take inspo from Ruby Rose with a hot pink hue. This eye-catching color is not for the faint of heart. That said, magenta is universally flattering, so bold babes everywhere, this one’s for you.

9. Tiger Eye: We predicted back in November that tiger eye tresses would be the it hair trend for 2017. Turns out, we were right! Whether you sport a cropped cut or long mermaid locks, this color is everything.

10. Platinum: Rihanna’s rumored return to platinum isn’t the first celeb to go boldly blonde. Zoe Kravitz has been spotted rocking platinum braids too. Guess it’s true what they say — blondes do have more fun.

A new season often calls for a new haircut, and when preparing for a fresh start, why revert to a tired style? Instead, consider getting a little scissor happy and adding some texture texture to embrace the modern shag hairstyle. The swing shag, or swag, is characterized by long layers and is often paired with feathered ends for a piece-y finish (versus the classic cut, which has more blunt ends) and bangs.

While you may think this is new, it's actually anything but that. The messy style comes from the 1970's Woodstock era with popular icons and rockstars sporting the classic look. Stevie Nicks, Jane Fonda, and even Mick Jagger. It had a resurgence in the late 2000's and early 2010's with the evolution of "tumblr-era" and "indie sleaze" becoming popular and now it's back and better than ever!

So many celebrities have been spotted wearing this popular hairstyle from Jenna Ortega's recent cut to Zendaya and the ever-iconic Alexa Chung. To check out all the ways it can be worn, keep scrolling for 7 of our favorite takes on the modern shag.

1. Long Length Shag with Choppy Layers

Photo by Tim P. Whitby/Getty Images for Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures

Zendaya's longer, slightly wind-swept style makes a nod to the ’90s, making it that much more fashionable. Who doesn't love a throwback? It looks a little more put-together than some of the previous cuts and on Zendaya it looks fab!! This picture was immediately saved on my Pinterest board for inspo the next time I go to the hairdresser. I can't wait to try this classy cut!

2. Grown-Out Roots

Photo by Mark Davis/Getty Images for TV Land

The shag cut is known for it’s low-key, high-fashion style, so what better way to rock it than paired with another hair trend: grown-out roots. Like Ellen Pompeo, you’ll look every bit the laid-back, cool girl.

3. Medium Length Shag

Photo by Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images

We can't do it better than the icon! Just ask for a simple shag with layers and front pieces and voila! You have the classic Alexa look.

In terms of what she asks for, in an interview with Vogue she said, "I visit the salon... I would say every six weeks. That said, I'm quite lucky and have shoots regularly, so I will often get a trim here and there." So the key to maintaining the perfect shag is frequent trims!

4. Swag with Eye-Grazing Bangs

Billie is absolutely killing the shag look here with a bit more heavy bangs and layers. Feel the moodiness with bangs that come close to the eyes. This sweepy haircut is easy to style because of its length and layers. Get a little messy with it – it'll add volume to your shorter strands.

5. Swingy Shag

Jenna Ortega looks absolutely stunning rocking this 70's-inspired shag! I, personally, like this style the best because it's so easy to not style and keep with the "messy-rocker-indie" vibe like Jenna has above. I love that she has the bangs a bit shorter and undone as well.

Talking about her new hairstyle with Teen Vogue Jenna said this, "When I told my hairdresser that I wanted to cut my hair, we were referring to it as a shag. And then people were saying, 'wolf cut.' What the hell is that? It’s kind of cute. It’s cute." We definitely think so!

6. Modern Shag with Ombré

To upgrade your ombré hair color, incorporate a few face-framing strands that are light from root to tip. The haircut will take the older ombré trend and liven it up a bit! We love how this dark-to-light, imperfect shag looks on Suki Waterhouse here! Definitely try this one if you want to look like the ultimate cool girl.

7. Short Retro Shag

Let’s not forget that the shag is a throwback trend, after all. Opt for a more vintage appeal paired with less obvious layers, like this cut on Florence Pugh above. This simple hairstyle is simple but has a lot of layers going throughout in order to keep it looking natural and not-too-styled. All you need for this looks is some dry shampoo for volume and maybe some texture spray to give it some body.

Spring is finally in full swing, which means that summer is just around the corner! Whether you just got back from spring break or are planning your first getaway of the year, one truth remains the same: you deserve a vacation. Head to a local beach town to relax and unwind in style, or grab your passport for the culture dive of a lifetime. As a writer and frequent flyer who maps out travel plans three years in advance, I've rounded up the coolest summer vacation ideas for 2024. Keep reading for tips on how to plan your perfect getaway to one of these trending cities!

Summer Vacation Ideas That Don't Require A Passport

New Orleans, Louisiana

It's an understatement to say that New Orleans is festive. While we all know about Mardi Gras, it's safe to say there's something fun going on all year round. Our favorite area to explore is the famed French Quarter, but we recommend booking a hotel in the slightly tamer Garden District or a haunted property elsewhere in town. Luckily, NOLA is highly walkable and Ubers are readily available, which makes it so much easier to see it all. Get spooked on a ghost tour with Free Tours by Foot (they offer a variety of other, non-occult tours too!). Dance the night away on Frenchman Street, where the best jazz musicians in the city play.

Napa Valley, California

It's hard to believe that Napa Valley is only 50 miles from San Francisco and the bay area. The region, which is made up of five towns (Calistoga, St. Helena, Yountville, American Canyon, and the city of Napa), is tucked between two mountain ranges. This means that the scenic views are endless, whether you're having a vineyard day or strolling through town. For a first visit, we recommend staying in Napa (colloquially known as Downtown Napa). Visitors will love the riverfront promenade and Napa Valley Wine Train. Yountville, the charming home to multiple Michelin Star restaurants, and Calistoga, which is a mix of Napa and Sonoma, are both absolutely worth a day trip while you're there, too.

Joshua Tree, California

Joshua Tree was designed with nature girlies in mind! It's made up of two different deserts, both with their own unique landscape, and dozens of picturesque hiking trails. The national park is just a two hour drive from Los Angeles, so flying into LAX is best if you're not a SoCal local. Make a list of your can't miss hikes (we recommend Hidden Valley) and get an early start. After a morning of hiking, cool off at a hot springs hotel (day passes are available for $8-$45, depending on the location).

Summer Vacation Ideas That Are A Short Flight Away

Toronto, Canada

Toronto is one of Canada's biggest (and most famous) cities. Fun fact: most NYC scenes in movies and TV shows are often shot in Toronto, thanks to the city's expansive skyline. Air Canada allows passengers to schedule a layover of up to 7 days in Toronto for free, but we think there's enough here to warrant a trip of it's own. One of the most iconic spots to visit is Casa Loma, a 98-room castle that's one of Toronto's most famous landmarks. Venture down Philosophers Walk, a scenic footpath, and spend the afternoon in Baldwin Village, famous for it's small shops and foodie-approved eateries.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Montego Bay is a lazy girl's best friend. While it's a tropical paradise that any traveler would adore, the hotels go above and beyond to ensure you never have to (nor want to) leave. Check into the S Hotel and spend your days enjoying the crystal clear beaches, dreamy pools, and delicious restaurants located right on site (there are four of them!). If you're feeling adventurous, book a catamaran tour or go rafting down the Marta Brae River.

International Summer Vacation Ideas Totally Worth The Trip

Machu Picchu, Peru

Machu Picchu is one of the seven modern wonders of the world, and something you have to see to truly believe. To get there, fly into Lima and spend a few days in the coastal city. From there, take a domestic flight (1-2 hours) to Cuzco and begin making your way to the mountains. Getting around the small mountain towns of Peru is no joke, so I recommend joining a guided tour for ease. Stay overnight in a traditional hacienda to continue taking in the beauty of your surroundings, and consider extending your trip to visit the Rainbow Mountains.

Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town has a little bit of everything: pristine beaches, vibrant city life, and untouched natural wonders. An extremely walkable port city, every neighborhood has its own personality. Check out the street art in the Woodstock neighborhood and then enjoy a fresh seafood lunch near the V&A Waterfront. Visit Boulders Beach, where several species of penguins live in harmony right on the beach. Take a day trip to the regions famous wineries, like Stellenbosch or Franschhoek, both of which are just two hours out from Cape Town proper. Spend two days on the Western Cape, where you can go on an African Safari and get up close and personal with the best of South Africa's wildlife.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Within the past few years, Denmark's capital has emerged from under-the-radar locale to a must-see destination for in-the-know travelers. Copenhagen was named one of the happiest cities in the world and in our expert opinion, it's also one of the most beautiful, thanks to Nyhavn, the famous 17th century harbor. First time visitors should stay downtown in Indre By, which is centrally located to fun activities and some of the most picturesque parts of the city. We recommend Hotel Bethel or The Socialist, for a more luxe hotel option. Stroll down the waterway and explore the medieval architecture, like Rosenborg Castle. Wander into Tivoli Gardens, a small amusement park with aesthetic gardens. Embrace the playfulness of Scandi Girl style, by supporting CPH-based designers like Saks Potts and Ganni.

Santorini, Greece

When thinking about Greece, Santorini is the first thing to come to mind. And for good reason! The infamous white-and-blue buildings have made their way into (almost) every piece of media surrounding Greece, and for all the girlies who grew up on a diet of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants rewatches, it makes our Y2K hearts happy knowing that the idyllic island exceeds expectations IRL. Since others have heard about the magic of Santorini as well, we recommend visiting at the beginning or end of the season to avoid the crowds and high prices. Oia and Thera are the most popular towns, but staying on the eastern side of the island will offer a more low-key and secluded getaway. We love Imerovigli, which offers an unobstructed view of the volcanic crater. To get the full experience, stay in a cave hotel. We love Perivolas Hotel for a luxe option, or The Architects Cave for a midrange hotel.

Seoul, South Korea

South Korea is a small country with so much to see and do. Make Seoul as your home base, and plan day trips to other areas of interest. Start in Hongdae, Seoul's most vibrant neighborhood, where you can try the newest street food and see edgy fashion trends up close. From there, make your way to Gyeongui Line Forest Park, a disused railway line turned lush, 3.7 mile walking trail. Venture into historic Seoul with a trip to Gyeongbokgung Palace, which was first built in 1395.

Marrakesh, Morocco

Morocco may seem like a world away, but with a 7 hour flight from NYC, it's actually closer than most of Western Europe. Fly direct into Casablanca, where you should stay for 1-2 days until you get sick of quoting the famous film. From there, catch the high speed train to Marrakesh, which is even more aesthetic than Instagram would have you believe. Check into La Mamounia (Anna Delvey's hotel of choice) and take your time exploring the local markets. Plan a morning at the Jardin Majorelle, Yves Saint Laurent's picturesque garden, and take pictures at the famed Ben Youssef Madrasa.

Going for a big chop can be intimidating, especially when opting for more layered haircuts after years of consistently long locks. Luckily, we rounded up the trending layered haircuts that will have you running to the salon to book your next appointment! Our favorite experts gave us the inside scoop on what haircuts are trending this season. And an added bonus? They work for all different hair textures! So don't worry if you have straight or curly hair — we've got you covered with the perfect layered haircuts, plus all the expert advice you need to get it.

Face Framing Pieces

Photo via Roman Bond/Instagram

If you're wanting to stay more risk-averse and opt for a simple, flattering cut then we have the one for you! Face framing layers are an amazing way to really help shape your face and flatter your features. Hair stylist and expert Roman Bond says, "Incorporating small layers around the face can delicately shape and enhance one's features, exuding an aura of softness and sophistication." That sounds like a dream to us!

Classic All-Around Layers

Image via Instagram/@renee.valerie

If you want to stay a little more tame with your hairstyle but still want to incorporate something new, then we suggest going with a classic-layered cut. This will keep your hair looking natural but still give it new dimension and depth.

I love classic layers, especially when they go all around with face-framing pieces that are flattering to all face shapes as well. Renee Valeriesays, "Introducing layers to longer hair is an effortless and subtle method to boost volume, create movement, and infuse a touch of softness to the style."

Short, Textured Cut

Photo via Roman Bond/Instagram

This is a look that will allow you to try out a shorter style without being too risky! This flattering cut works on so many hair types because it allows straight hair to gain some volume and textured hair to sit at a nice length with some dimension.

Roman Bondsays, "Individuals with thick, porous hair who prioritize manageability and styling versatility may benefit from shorter, textured layers. These layers are adept at distributing volume and facilitating styling efforts, particularly for those who can’t imagine their lives without blow-dryer or Airwraps."

This cut is perfect if you want to test out a shorter, more layered length without going too far! I love the mid-length for summer as well.

Longer Layered Haircuts

Image via Roman Bond/Instagram

Long layers is another insanely perfect hairstyle we love to see! We adore this style because, again, this one is perfect for all hair textures. You can style it like above with textured, long hair and maybe even adding some mild highlights to it for summer. Or you can style it with a blowout for a vintage-inspired supermodel look.

Hair expert Roman Bond adds, "Layered haircuts are also exceptionally suited for curly hair. Understanding the unique structure and styling needs of curls is paramount. When cutting curly hair, I opt to work with it in its natural, dry state, foregoing straightening methods. This approach allows for a more accurate assessment of the hairs natural tendencies, enabling me to strategically enhance volume, texture, and shape according to the client's preferences and lifestyle." This haircut is sure to be a summer go-to for so many!

Bardot Bangs

Photo via Vladimir Flores/Pexels

Who could forget iconic Bardot bangs? Named after the famous actress who made messy, slept-in bangs iconic, this haircut is everything — especially with this modern, updated cut. It's slightly over-grown side-swept bangs that really help to frame your face and accentuate your features. It's another great look to give you some dimension without trying anything too risky.

Hair expert Renee Valeriesays, "Bardot bangs infuse a cool vibe into any hairstyle. I love how they complement all hair textures seamlessly and quickly enhance a hairstyle's overall look with minimal time to create." Running to make an appointment for this cut ASAP!

After Emily in Paris season 3 dropped on Netflix in December of 2022, we were hoping to get the fourth installment of the hit show in 2023. But production was halted when the WGA writers' strike, then the SAG-AFTRA actors' strike went to affect. But with the end of the writers' strike, and new SAG negotiations, Emily in Paris season 4 is finally in production as of February 2024 — and there's sure to be plenty of drama and French fashion. Here's everything we know about the upcoming season of your favorite TV brain candy!!

Is Emily in Paris season 4 coming soon?

Image via Lily Collins/Instagram

Via Variety, Emily in Paris season 4 began production in Paris the week of January 15! "Did someone say Saison Quatre?!" Lily Collins says in her Instagram post announcing production. "Finally reunited with my @emilyinparis fam back in Paris and it feels so good. Although, I may need to brush up on my selfie skills for Emily’s sake…"

But this year won't be a normal year of filming for the show (although, because of COVID, what does "normal filming" even mean anymore?). Because of the 2024 Paris Olympics, all filming in the city will be shut down from June to September. Netflix's co-CEO just spilled on the release date (via The Hollywood Reporter) and great news — it's sooner than I expected! Alongside the new seasons of Squid Game and Outer Banks, we'll see Emily in Paris season 4 before the end of the year. I'm hoping for a fall release because Emily in Paris is the perfect escapist show for hibernation season.

Is Emily in Paris filmed in Paris?

Image via Netflix

Yes, Emily in Paris is filmed on location in Paris! We got our first look at Emily in Paris season 4 when Lily Collins and Ashley Park were seen filming in the City of Love (via Daily Mail). The costumes for the series are still as bold and bright as ever, with Ashley's Mindy wearing cobalt and metallic boots, and Lily's Emily dressed head-to-toe in lemon yellow. I can't wait to see what these best friends get up to this season! Check out our Paris travel recommendations to live out your own Emily in Paris dreams ;).

What's Emily In Paris season 4 about?

Image via Netflix

Season 3 left us with a huge cliffhanger: Alfie breaks up with Emily, Camille learns she's pregnant with Gabriel's baby, Benoit's "Mon Soleil" has been chosen for the Eurovision Song Contest, and Emily and Gabriel realize they've been in love with each other the whole time. Whew.

Emily in Paris season 4 will have a ton of cliffhangers to bring full circle, and a bunch of damage that all the characters need to heal. We know from the Netflix TUDUM fan event that we might also see Emily have to deal with an ultimatum head-on, as well as an unexpected twist. Plus, it looks like she's heading on a "Roman holiday," according to lead actress Lily Collins. We'll take any nod to an Audrey Hepburn movie, please and thank you!

Is Alfie coming back in season 4 of Emily in Paris?

Image via Netflix

We don't have *official* word on whether Alfie (played by Lucien Laviscount) will return for Emily in Paris season 4, but we're hoping for his sake that he gets some closure. Lucien wants to come back as well! "[The dream is] to keep this gravy train going and just to kind of really live in this world a little bit longer," he says in an interview with Elle. " The writers on the show and the creators behind it and everyone that comes into contact with it is so amazing and fantastic. Their minds [have] way, way, way, way surpassed mine. So, yeah. I’ll let them do their thing.”

Who else is in the Emily in Paris season 4 cast?

Image via Netflix

We can expect the rest of the cast — Lily Collins as Emily, Lucas Bravo as Gabriel, Ashley Park as Mindy, Camille Razat as Camille, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie, Samuel Arnold as Julian, and Bruno Gouery as Luc — to return.

Will there be a season 5 of Emily in Paris?

Image via Marie Etchegoyen/Netflix

It looks like Emily in Paris season 4 will not be the final season, according to creator Darren Star. “There’s a lot more story to tell here and we’re not wrapping things up anytime soon,” Star tells Elle. “And also hopefully season four isn’t the end either. I feel like we’re all creatively feeling like we’re in the middle of something not heading towards the end.”

Darren also told Deadline season 4 is "not necessarily conceived as a final chapter. I think like every other show, it’s a rich ensemble. There’s no end in sight until everybody feels like it’s time to end. And I don’t think this show is limited by a number of seasons, I think it’s limited by everybody’s enthusiasm and excitement about doing it and telling stories about these characters."

We'll take as many seasons of Emily in Paris as they'll give us!!

What has the cast said about Emily in Paris season 4?

Image via Marie Etchegoyen/Netflix

Lucas Bravo told People he's excited for a coming-of-age for Gabriel. "When you start a character, then there's a year where you experience the world and you mature, you become another person and you come back and it's exactly the day you left off," he says. "I'm happy that in season four I'll be able to bring more of what I became and what I've experienced in the past four years."

Even though Lily Collins is now an executive producer, she doesn't want to know *too* much about the future of the show. “Darren and I speak, on occasion, about where he’s thinking of going, but he also doesn’t wanna spoil too much for me because there is a fine line,” she tells Collider. “I don’t wanna know everything because I want to be led with the writing, but I am also curious because, as a producer wanting to celebrate the other characters, I’m very curious to see what their trajectories are."

Are you excited for Emily in Paris Season 4? Give us your craziest theory in the comments, and check out our Facebook for more pop culture news. Read up on how This "Emily In Paris" Theory Could Be Why Emily And Gabriel Aren’t Together (Yet).
