A video has emerged of a rugby fan aiming several punches at another spectator during a match at Ashton Gate.

The incident was filmed during Bristol Bears' Gallagher Premiership defeat to Worcester Warriors at their home ground on Saturday (March 23).

The footage shows a man wearing a replica Worcester Warriors training jacket, hat and scarf throwing several punches at another member of the crowd - thought to be a woman - who is sitting a few rows in front of him.

The violent flash point unfolds right under the noses of stewards in the South Stand at the stadium in BS3.

The video has been circulated on social media, with many people alleging that a woman was the victim of the attack.

Dozens of spectators can be seen watching on stunned while other try and restrain the enraged man.

The man appears to throw three punches at the 'woman' before he is stopped by the stewards and ejected from his seat and escorted away.

There is no footage of the build-up to the attack, but there was a suggestion on social media that the man had taken issue with the group of children sitting in front of him waving flags.

Spokesmen for both Bristol Bears confirmed the man was ordered to leave the stadium and Avon and Somerset Police are investigating the incident.

In a statement, a Warriors spokesman said: “Warriors are aware that police are investigating an incident at Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership match against Bristol Bears at Ashton Gate in which a supporter wearing club replica kit was ejected from the ground for allegedly throwing a punch.

“We are cooperating with Bristol and Avon & Somerset Police in their investigations.

“As this is a now an active police investigation it would be inappropriate for us to comment further on the incident.

“As a club Warriors take a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour. We are a family club and subscribe to rugby’s core values, one of which is respect for others.”

The club added that the unnamed man was banned from attending Worcester Warriors' home games while the police investigation is ongoing.

A spokesman for Bristol Bears said: "Bristol Bears are aware of an incident that occurred in the South Stand during Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership clash.

Bristol Live has approached Avon and Somerset Police for comment.

There is no segregated seating for rugby fixtures at Ashton Gate, with fans of both teams sat side by side. Unlike football, rugby supporters are also allowed to drink in the stands.

Worcester climbed off the bottom of the Premiership as they narrowly defeated the Bears 27-25 at Ashton Gate on Saturday.
