Aitor Karanka opens up about Dan Crowley's Birmingham City future

With the January transfer window now open Birmingham City will look to trim their squad with Aitor Karanka looking to move on some well known faces

Aitor Karanka expects Dan Crowley to leave Birmingham City in the January transfer window.

BirminghamLive revealed on Sunday several clubs are interested in the 23-year-old who has not played first team football for nearly three months.

The attacking midfielder has seen his chances dry up under Aitor Karanka, who has preferred Jon Toral, Riley McGree and even winger Ivan Sanchez in the No. 10 role.

Asked if he expects the former Aston Villa and Arsenal trainee to move on this month, Karanka admitted he does.

“I think so because Dan is the kind of player that for me is a shame,” the head coach said.

“I always said he is a very good kid, he trains really well and as a manager, as a coach it is frustrating when you can’t find him a place on the pitch. But he does his best everyday.

“I think the best thing for him is [to] move [to] another team and I told him always that myself and the club will help him whatever he wants.

“He is a really good professional and he deserves to be helped.
