West Brom face Sheffield United in what BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has described as the ‘biggest game of the season so far’, on Tuesday night.

Both teams go into the game knowing that a win will be vital in their hopes of staying in the Premier League beyond this season.

The Blades are currently bottom of the table, with just eight points from their opening 21 games, although they did pull off a shock result by beating then league leaders Manchester United at Old Trafford just two games ago.

West Brom are one place and four points above their opponents in the table, but with Sam Allardyce adding five new players over the January transfer window, will be hoping that gives them the necessary boost needed to kick on in the second half of the campaign.

Ahead of the game, both Lawrenson and former Premier League striker Michael Owen have given their predictions, and both have gone with the same result.

“It was a bad weekend for the bottom three, with Newcastle and Brighton both winning,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport .

“At least both of these sides have been showing a bit of fight, though. It's clear they haven't given up hope yet.

“West Brom are still conceding, but not as many. They did well to stay in their game against Fulham on Saturday because they were completely outplayed in the first half, but they improved, and deserved their point.
