A heavily pregnant NHS nurse, aged 28, has tragically died from coronavirus.

Her death came as medics heroically saved the healthcare worker's baby.

The nurse, 28, died from Covid-19 after she underwent an emergency cesarean.

She was rushed into surgery as medics tried to deliver and save her baby daughter.

It has not been confirmed whether the baby has tested positive for the deadly bug, which has claimed the lives of nearly 13,000 Brits so far.

Colleagues said the mum was a "fabulous nurse and a great example of what we stand for", reports the Mirror.

The chief executive of the Trust sad the nurse was a "wonderful young woman who made a huge contribution".

According to Channel 4, an internal email to staff told how the decision was made to perform an emergency cesarean after her condition deteriorated.
