Leicester City parade: Clean-up after 240,000 people celebrate

About 1,000 cleaners helped tidy Leicester after an estimated 240,000 fans turned out to watch the Premier League champion's victory parade.

The open top buses stopped at Victoria Park and were met with a sea of blue and white - a crowd as big as those witnessed at the Glastonbury festival.

Rock band and Foxes fans Kasabian also performed for the crowd.

It was estimated that 40 tonnes of rubbish was collected after one of the biggest-ever operations in the city.

Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater said: "We've made people's lives... it's a good feeling."

Drinkwater, who has been included in the England squad for the European championships, added: "We've brought the trophy to Leicester where it was never really expected."

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri, who has been named manager of the year by the League Managers Association, told thousands of people from the stage: "Keep dreaming, don't wake up."

The club's Thai vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: "This has been an amazing season - and I hope you will keep supporting the team.

He added: "I think we need a bigger stadium, eh?"

Supporter Lee Jobber, who is famous for his drumming at the King Power and having a huge Foxes tattoo on his back, said of the event: "If this doesn't pull the city together, nothing will."

Foxes captain Wes Morgan was in awe of the size of the crowd who turned up to celebrate.

"We shouldn't be in this position," he said.

"It's unbelievable what we've achieved, no-one can take that away from us, we're just trying to let it sink in still."

The champions were 5,000-1 to win the title at the start of the season.

But the Foxes overcame any doubters when they were presented with the trophy after their final home game of the season against Everton on 7 May.

Leicester City Council said it would expect to collect up to six tonnes of rubbish on a normal day - on Tuesday it was expected to be more like 40 tonnes.
