Report: Leroy Sané not interested in a return to Germany? (Update: Falk disputes the report)

Sky Sports’ Torben Hoffmann thinks that Leroy Sané is not interested in coming to Bayern Munich.

According to Sky Sports reporter Torben Hoffmann (via sky.de, geolocked), normally a reliable source of info for Bayern Munich, Germany international Leroy Sané is not interested in a return to Germany, making it almost impossible for the Bavarians to pry him away from Manchester City.

This claim comes as a surprise, since all the reporting so far has suggested that the transfer had a decent chance of going through. Then again, club president Uli Hoeness expressed doubts about the transfer very recently, so perhaps this was a roadblock behind that scenes that nobody knew about until now.

What’s going to happen now? We have no idea. We don’t even know if Hoffmann’s information is trustworthy or not, given the nature of the media during a transfer window. He also may merely be airing his own take on the likelihood of the transfer. Be that as it may, it has often been speculated that Sané has been using Bayern as a bargaining chip to get a better salary deal in his next pay package, similar to what Sergio Ramos did back in the day with Manchester United.

Hopefully, Hoffmann is mistaken. With Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery both leaving, a player like Sané would be an incredible statement signing for Bayern as the club heads into the new season, and it’s likely that Bayern has the funds to pull off this transfer. But if the player himself isn’t interested, then there’s nothing the club can do.

We’ll keep you updated if there are any developments in the story. If another reporter, such as Christian Falk or Fabrizio Romano decides to rebut Hoffmann, we’ll update the article ASAP.

Update

Well, there we go. Christian Falk denies that Leroy Sane is not interested in a move back to Germany. He retweeted this tweet by @iMiaSanMia:
