Circumstances forced Hansi Flick to adjust his already interesting lineup for the bout versus Borussia Mönchengladbach on the fly.

Whether they were overly hyped up for the match vs the Bundesliga champions or it was Gladbach’s plan was to be physical out of the gates, they were aggressive to the point of recklessness in the first half. All in all the match featured six yellow cards and one red card for Javi Martinez’s penalty.

Corentin Tolisso was the first member of Bayern Munich to get swapped in the 20th minute with a muscular injury for the Croatian Ivan Perišić who scored Bayern’s lone goal for the day. He went down unchallenged and appeared to grab his hamstring.

AZ’s Patrick Strasser reported via Twitter that it was probably a case of muscle hardening, nothing serious.

Jérôme Boateng also ended up leaving the match in the 68th minute for Javi Martinez which turned out to be a costly substitution. He appeared to be injured and moving slow late in the first half but tried to gut it out according to Coach Flick (FCBayern.com). His replacement Martinez was the found guilty for the penalty in the 90th that lead to Mönchengladbach’s winning goal.

Time will tell how long they are both forced to sit out but hopefully neither will be out for long.
