Regis Prograis, WBSS “finalizing a deal” for October 26th Josh Taylor fight

And all it took was the threat of litigation.

Less than a week after World Boxing Super Series finalist Regis Prograis withdrew from the tournament and filed suit against its organizers, the two parties are “finalizing a deal” for Prograis to return to the field and face Josh Taylor in London on October 26th.

Like the rest of the tournament, the fight would air on DAZN.

It’s a shame that someone had to break out the Fezzik approach, but at least we’re probably getting one of the better fights this sport has to offer. Prograis (24-0, 20 KO) and Taylor (15-0, 12 KO) are indisputably two of the top three fighters at 140 pounds and both have mean streaks in the ring a mile long. This fight will also unify the WBA “super” and IBF titles, meaning we’d just be a fight with Jose Ramirez away from having a fully unified division.

Prograis saw a seven-fight knockout streak come to an end in his quarterfinal victory over former champion Terry Flanagan, but returned to his finishing ways with a shellacking of the iron-tough Kiryl Relikh in April. Taylor, meanwhile, dominated Ryan Martin last November before fending off the game Ivan Baranchyk six months later.

If it goes through, it will be the first of the three finals to go down. Naoya Inoue fights Nonito Donaire in Tokyo on November 7th and Mairis Briedis fights Yuniel Dorticos in Riga, Latvia on December 14th.
