Hughie Fury diagnosed with acne conglobata, ready for July 9 return

Peter Fury, the father and trainer of heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury, says that his son has been diagnosed with acne conglobata, but he and his son both say he's doing better and will be ready for his July 9 return on the Tyson Fury-Wladimir Klitschko II undercard.

Fury (20-0, 10 KO) is coming off of a technical decision win over Fred Kassi on April 30, a performance that drew criticism from himself, his father/trainer, and his cousin, Tyson. The diagnosis of acne conglobata, which can cause fatigue, fevers, and joint pain, and is one of the most serious forms of acne, could explain much of his trouble in that fight.

If you look even at just the picture above from the Kassi fight, you can see there's definitely something going on with his skin.

"I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, Hughie was only at 30 percent against Kassi and he’s been battling this condition in most of his pro fights," said Peter Fury. "Dr. (Ian R.) White said this is the worst case of acne conglobata he’s seen in five years. Thankfully, Hughie’s improving. His stamina and overall health are way better now than it was even a few months ago. Dr. White deserves a ton of credit for that."

The 21-year-old prospect says he’s improving daily with medication, and that he’s aiming to impress on July 9.

"I’m feeling a lot better and that has made this training camp much better for me thus far," he said. "We still have a month to go before fight night and I’m waiting to find out who my opponent is. Regardless of who it is, I’m prepared for an impressive showing July 9. My team expects that I will be 100% in the near future. My plan is to fight for and win a world title in 2017."
