As our senior players make a big impact at the Euros, Chelsea have been managing the new generation of talents at the club that can soon shine at the international and first-team stages. A player that has already shown signs towards success in this regard is young defender Levi Colwill, who was a key player to our U23 squad efforts in Premier League 2.

Colwill impressed onlookers with his displays as centre-back for the Blues, being able to provide not just solid defensive skills but also good passing from the back. Better yet the 18-year-old is a versatile defender, being able to play either as a full-back or wing-back and make the best use of his preferred left foot.

His contribution to Chelsea’s second-place finish in Premier League 2 was duly rewarded by the club’s brass, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. Not only Colwill got a new four-year deal, he will also have his first ever professional stint by going on loan to Championship outfit Huddersfield.

Fabrizio’s wording makes it seem Colwill will join Huddersfield on a season-long arrangement, which is often a sign of confidence that there will be no reasons for mid-season adjustments or recalls — although the latter is a good option to have in case everything goes south. Either way, it is nice to see the team investing in young talents such as Colwill who might be able to save us a pretty penny if he follows the path of fellow Academy players who have recently become Champions League winners in the near future.
