A chilling adventure is coming to Riverdale.
Kiernan Shipka, who starred on Netflix’s Riverdale spinoff Chilling Adventures of Sabrina from 2018 through to its 2020 series finale, is bringing her titular character to Riverdale in Season 6, TVLine has confirmed.
“We’ve been talking about having Sabrina visit Riverdale since season 1, so it’s thrilling that this is finally happening, as part of our Rivervale special event,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in a statement. “It’s also perfect that she shows up to help Cheryl Blossom during her hour of greatest need. Everyone on set lost their minds — I think fans will, too. It’s really fun and special.”
In this week’s Season 5 finale, Cheryl invoked a centuries-old curse spoken by her ancestor Abigail while she was burned alive as a witch, and a cold wind blew through Riverdale as a result. The curse was originally on the ancestors of Archie, Betty and Jughead, so Cheryl’s curse could spell trouble for those three when Season 6 kicks off with a five-episode event, dubbed “Rivervale.”
Riverdale Season 6 is set to premiere on Tuesday (a new night!), Nov. 16 at 9/8c (a new time!) on The CW. Shipka’s Sabrina will turn up in Episode 4, titled “The Witching Hour(s),” where she’ll assist Cheryl as she performs a dangerous spell “that may mean the difference between life and death for a beloved member of the Blossom family,” per the official description.
What took them so long?!?!
Netflix
But Sabrina is dead….
🤫🤫🤫
Yay! I hope they figure out a way to keep her on the show and bring Nick and Harvey over too.
Sure. They should also bring in Katy Keene and the gang from NYC.
Netflix should never have canceled The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Exactly. Brina is everything to me but idk if I can do it can we just have CAOS back
But she’s dead?
I was wondering if this was going to be the event that kicks off the season in it new time slot. It and the Flash may see see a bit of a ratings tick, but both shows are about 2 seasons past their expiration date.
Witch, other realm… is dead really dead? If she is, then we get Sabrina the teenage ghost. Either way, it’s the best thing to happen in Riverdale in some time.
Isn’t she dead though?
There’s going to be so much singing….
Did they ever explain how Alice was levitating the twins a few seasons ago?
Hallucination caused by toxins in the water that only effected the women
This is so cool – Sabrina was such a good show and this will get me watching Riverdale again.
Did they forget they killed off Sabrina
For everyone complaining that Sabrina is dead, remember we don’t exactly know the time periods that both shows take place. The easiest assumption is that the crossover takes place before Sabrina died. We also know that characters occasionally came back to life on Sabrina (notably Hilda after being murdered by her sister multiple times), so it’s possible something happened post-finale to bring her back. And finally, since CAOS did feature at least one time-travel arc, this could simply be a a case of Sabrina traveling through time and visiting from the past.
Well Sabrina is behind riverdale. Because Ben died on riverdale but somehow delivers a pizza to Sabrina’s house in season 1 of her show. So he had to have delivered the pizza before his death. So right off the bat riverdale is in the future and CAOS is in the past. Everything that happens in CAOS is happening before riverdale. Then along came the 7 yr jump.
If that’s the case, then time-travel or Sabrina coming back from the dead are still valid possibilities. It’s also possible that the Sabrina we saw on CAOS is from a different earth and the Sabrina who will appear on Riverdale is from Riverdale’s earth.
I guess she will come back from the dead bus remember when Edward showed Zelda her dying period? There was Sabrina and her Aunt Hilda, Sabrina was saying Zelda that I’m sorry auntie I couldn’t be there for you, I’m late but just know that I love you and your work is done here, you can rest now. So Zelda basically died with white hair, she was so old, and Sabrina came to visit her just before she died. So how its possible that Sabrina died before her aunt. I don’t know what will the show makers will do but all I know that if that thing was Future as Zelda said later and Helped Hilda to be alive again then Sabrina will come again. And as per that future everybody in Greendale or in Sabrina’s life have to appear. So it’ll be best if the show makers start making CAOS as a separate show again.
God, I’m HOPING something happened post-finale on CAOS that brought Sabrina back. Her death felt so needlessly unnecessary and avoidable, I was waiting for her to come back right up to the credits started rolling. They are witches. With M A G I C. And apparently an earth that brings dead things back to life that they just stopped using for some reason… If they want to bring the character back to the living, there are oodles of ways to do it.
I’m surprised Riverdale lasted this long.
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? Thanks be to the CW, which giveth us the victory!
Can we get some Katy Keene love too?
now they’ll have to explain how she comes back from the dead.
Finally! The moment we have have waited for has arrived. The crossover we have been dreaming of since both shows started airing will finally become a reality. All hail Sabrina!!!
It would be absolutely incredible if Riverdale could adopt Sabrina, much like The Legends of Tomorrow adopted John Constantine after the NBC Constantine series got cancelled. Give the character a new chance in a different setting. And completely ignore that trainwreck of a final episode, what a terrible way to end an amazing series…
The only way this really works for me is if it is a different Sabrina than the one from CAOS – more of a charlatan and quasi-witch like Cheryl or at least one who doesn’t use her powers overtly. Turning Riverdale into a full-fledged supernatural series is a bit of a bridge too far, in my view.
Why is this too far? Really where is the line? High school kids run bars? Jughead a kid was basically head off a gang? Betty apparently after everything is somehow an FBI agent after everything that happened? And she’s going to work in Riverdale? Cheryl is some red hooded archer? I’ve lost track of how little it makes sense. I finally thought I’d quit watching after all this time. I made up my mind with the episode before the finale but the finale sounded promising because it was going to deal with Hiram who overstayed his welcome by 3 seasons.
All I’m saying is that if you watch this show at all you have to suspend disbelief to such a high degree. Accepting magic and the occult? That’s where you draw the line?
Yes, because it is way too late in the series to introduce this element. They have hinted at sci-fi and fantasy elements before (such as with Mothman and the alien body, etc.) but always came back with a semi-rational explanation. Yes there are many exaggerated elements on the show (not uncommon for a soap opera which is largely what this is), but you accept all that as part of the show’s mythos. Overt witchcraft would have been fine if they had introduced it right from the start or laid a better foundation, but introducing it this late in the game just seems way too cutesy for a show that, as you point out, already forces a lot of suspension of disbelief. For RAS to be introducing this at such a late stage (and after CAOS has been cancelled for a while) makes me think he knows the next season is likely the last.
Bringing Sabrina to Riverdale would be quite absurd. As we all know sabrina is dead and the whole Riverdale timeline is more confusing than our math tests. All CAOS fans are expecting another season or mayb another new show on Sabrina but bring bringing her to Riverdale just for one episode would not be a good idea atleast in my concern. Lately the episodes of riverdale are also very confusing, jughead was missing throughout the entire season- they completely ruined his character, the villains are boring and uninteresting and the whole plot is so messed up.
