Wolves should look to add Andre Gomes to their Portuguese contingent

Tottenham are ready to back manager Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer market by battling Everton for Andre Gomes, according to the Sun.

They report that the Portuguese midfielder is willing to delay a decision over a permanent move, which looks set to spark a transfer tussle given how well he has settled into English football.

And if it becomes an open fight for the Barcelona loanee’s signature, then Wolves’ Portuguese links should encourage them to join in the race for the man Everton fans have already taken to their hearts.

According to Transfermarkt, Gomes is represented by Gestifute, the company of Jorge Mendes, who of course has been so influential in Wolves’ recent rise.

The driving factor behind their rapid resurgence has been Mendes’ ability to give the club access to players they would otherwise never have signed.

Given the higher calibre clubs fighting for Gomes, that would need to be the case again, but Gomes’ international team-mates, such as Ruben Neves, could perhaps outline the virtues of moving to Molineux and tip the balance.

Signing Gomes ahead of more established rivals would be yet another major show of Wolves’ ambitions and they should be right there in the hunt, if one develops in the summer.
