Tottenham Hotspur FC transfer news: Spurs identify Matthijs de Ligt to replace Toby Alderweireld

Tottenham are set to lose Toby Alderweireld this summer and they have already identified the player they want to sign to replace the defender.

Matthijs de Ligt, the 18-year-old Ajax star, is being lined up for a £45m summer swoop according The Sun.

The technically gifted centre-half has already been scouted by Barcelona and Arsenal, though the former’s interest in him has cooled since they bought 23-year-old Yerry Mina from Palmeiras in January.

De Ligt has already made 60 appearances for Ajax despite his young age, and he made his debut for the Netherlands national team at the age of 17 years and seven months, becoming the youngest Dutch debutant since 1931.

He has since represented his nation five times.

Mauricio Pochettino, the Tottenham manager, has previously watched Swansea’s Alfie Mawson and Harry Maguire, the Leicester star, as he hunts for a new centre-half.

However, he has settled on De Ligt and Spurs are expected to approach Ajax this summer.
