Championship transfer EXCLUSIVE: Marcus Browne set for Middlesbrough loan exit this month

Middlesbrough winger Marcus Browne is set to leave the club on a temporary basis this month.

talkSPORT.com understands League One promotion chasers Oxford United are in pole position to land the 22-year-old, who spent the 2018/19 season on loan at the Kassam Stadium.

Browne scored nine goals and provided five assists in 44 appearances in all competitions for Karl Robinson's men last term, but they face competition for his signature from Charlton Athletic.

The injury-plagued Addicks are keen to bolster their squad this month as they look to strengthen their Championship survival bid.

Doncaster Rovers and Coventry City are also interested in signing Browne, who joined Boro in a £250,000 move from West Ham in July 2018.

While Browne remains part of Jonathan Woodgate's long-term plans at the Riverside, the recent loan acquisitions of Manchester City attacking duo Patrick Roberts and Lukas Nmecha has put him well down the pecking order.

The youngster is therefore keen to go out and get regular football in the second half of this campaign, and is prepared to drop down a division to do so.

The former Hammers academy graduate has made 16 appearances in all competitions to date, but has failed to score or register an assist for his new side.
