Former Chelsea starlet Anthony Grant forced to train with Shrewsbury youth team for entire season due to ‘in house’ reasons
Salop boss Sam Ricketts revealed the 32-year-old midfielder will not be part of the first-team set up next season
Chelsea academy graduate Anthony Grant has been forced to train with the Shrewsbury Town youth team.
The 32-year-old, who made 48 appearances for Salop last season, recently spent two weeks sidelined following dental surgery.
He did not travel to Portugal with the rest of the squad for a pre-season training camp - and manager Sam Ricketts reveals the midfielder will not train with the first-team anymore due to 'in-house' reasons.
“Anthony needed some dental work and part of that was that he couldn’t do physical activity for two weeks following that operation," Ricketts told the club's website.
“That is because raising blood pressure can increase the risk of bleeding.
“That period has come to a close and following that Granty will be training with the youth team.
“He won’t be part of the first-team set-up this season due to reasons which will remain in-house.”
Grant was a regular for the League One club last season and triggered a one-year extension on his contract at the end of the campaign.
He made his professional debut for Chelsea during the title-winning 2004/05 season under Jose Mourinho, though his appearance as a 90th-minute substitute for Joe Cole at Old Trafford remains his only Premier League outing.
