Who needs Gareth Bale? Heung-Min Son scores FOUR and Harry Kane assists them all as Tottenham come from behind to stun Southampton

Who would have thought it? Going into the 45th minute, Tottenham were 1-0 down and looked like they were chasing shadows.

Another 46 minutes later they had won 5-2 with Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane putting Southampton to the sword in devastating fashion.

The South Korean scored four times with the England captain assisting every single one - in a similar style each time.

And, before time was called on the rout, Kane was able to tap home a strike of his own leaving Ralph Hasenhuttl's Saints stunned.

Each time Son struck should have been a warning that opposite number Jose Mourinho was targeting their high defensive line, but each time it fell on deaf ears.

Southampton's opening 45 minutes had Spurs rattled, for sure, but as the game wore on the just couldn't keep up their relentless pace, allowing Spurs to fight back and finish them off.

The opening of the game was actually dominated by VAR with the system disallowing a fine Kane volley and then a tapped home finish, sandwiching a Danny Ings effort which was ruled out for offside.

Southampton took Spurs to task, overwhelming their timid midfield and subsequently they created chance after chance.

Che Adams forced a stunning save from Hugo Lloris, while Moussa Djenepo gave right-back Matt Doherty a tough match, preventing him from doing his usual gallivanting down the flank.

It was a chastening experience made worse when Ings slammed home a superb shot having been played in behind a clueless Eric Dier, who was too busy watching the ball.

Southampton, really, should have been winning by more.

Spurs, though, sneaked an equaliser in added time before the break as Tanguy Ndombele fed Kane and the striker slipped the ball into Son's path and he netted from a tight angle.

Just a minute after the break it was 2-1 to Tottenham with Kane sliding Son in behind the defence again and he was able to slot home past McCarthy with ease after driving into the centre of the penalty area.

For the third, it all started with an excellent progressive pass from Davinson Sanchez, which Kane met on the halfway line.

From there it was all muscle memory as the striker delivered a reverse pass ahead of Son that the world's best creators would have been proud of.

Beyond Kyle Walker-Peters already, there was no stopping the South Korean. Two touches, steady, back of the net.

Hasenhuttl's men should have learnt by now but, alas, not quickly enough, as ten minutes on it was 4-1. The same duo, in the same style.

Half time substitute Giovani Lo Celso, on for Ndombele, found Kane, whose touch took him out wide on the right.

It should have slowed Spurs but Kane had other ideas. A first time ball around the back of the Saints found Son and after chesting it down he rammed it past McCarthy from close range.

Kane got a goal of his own as time ticked on, prodding in an Erik Lamela shot which cannoned back off the post.

Southampton did, though, get another consolation with Ings scoring from the penalty spot after Doherty handled in the box.

Who needs Gareth Bale, eh?
