LaLiga matches to be shown free-to-air on ITV in the UK as Spanish league agree last-minute deal ahead of Athletic Bilbao vs Barcelona

LaLiga have agreed a deal which will see matches from the beginning of the 2019/20 season broadcast live on ITV in the UK and Ireland.

The new campaign begins with Athletic Bilbao vs Barcelona on Friday night, with the game being shown on ITV4 and the online ITV Hub.

It was announced on Thursday that one game from each of the first three match days will be shown live with a weekly highlights show of the entire league also available.

The full schedule for the first three weeks of the season is as follows:

Match day 1: Friday 16th August - Athletic Club vs. FC Barcelona – 8pm BST

Match day 2: Sunday 25th August - FC Barcelona vs. Real Betis – 8pm BST

Match day 3: Sunday 1st September - Villarreal CF vs. Real Madrid – 8pm BST

It is as yet unknown whether more games will follow in a further deal throughout the season.

In 2018/19, ITV picked up coverage alongside Premier Sports when streaming service Eleven Sports had to renegotiate their deal midway through the campaign.
