World Cup 2018: The amazing stat that shows Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson is one of England’s most important players

The midfielder is winning plenty of fans for his performances in Russia this summer

Jordan Henderson missed a penalty for England in their shootout victory over Colombia, but there is no doubting his influence on this Three Lions team.

The Liverpool midfielder, so often criticised in the past for club and country, has been one of England's most impressive performers at the 2018 World Cup.

His impact on Gareth Southgate's side is highlighted by an amazing stat.

With the dramatic win over Colombia, Henderson stretched his unbeaten run in an England shirt to 28 matches (22 wins and six draws)

That is the longest unbeaten run of ANY England player in history.

He also impressed many with his attitude after England's win over the South American.

The 28-year-old made a point afterwards of seeking out Colombia's star man James Rodriguez - who missed the game through injury.

And then he gave a humble interview which he apologised for his spot-kick miss and appeared close to tears.

Having also led Liverpool to the Champions League final last season, it is surely time to start showing Henderson the respect he deserves.

England vs Sweden is live on talkSPORT this Saturday, kick-off 3pm
