Leeds United not currently in talks to sign Nicolas Raskin – YEP

Leeds United are not in talks to sign Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth.

The Sunday Mirror reported this morning that the Elland Road outfit have agreed a £6million fee for the Belgian, 20, with him set to be snapped up this week as a cover for Kalvin Phillips.

However, Smyth has gotten in touch with Raskin’s representatives and the Whites, and he claims both parties have dismissed the report.

He said: “A report in a national newspaper has suggested the Whites are set to sign the 20-year-old this week in a £6m deal, but according to his camp no talks have taken place and the suggestion from Leeds is that he’s not one of their top targets for January.”

Great

Smyth is a trusted and reliable source when it comes to news about the club, and it is safe to say that there is indeed nothing in the links.

The west Yorkshire outfit want a new midfielder, though, and it is only normal for such news to be flying around.

However, that they will be keen to part with £6million for a player that has not tested himself at the top level always sounded shady.

Raskin has loads of potential, is a regular for club and the Belgium under-21s, and is a midfield sensation as they come.

However, he is yet to play in any of Europe’s big leagues and is not in his country’s senior team.

Providing cover for Phillips is not going to be an easy job, and Leeds are likely to be looking at someone with more experience and one capable of hitting the ground running at Elland Road.

Nevertheless, the Raskin links are not likely to go away anytime soon, and it will be interesting to see what the next stories are.

With half of the transfer window gone, Leeds are still expected to make signings, and at least one or two names will definitely get linked with the club over the coming days.
