Laurence Fox has announced he will be boycotting Sainsbury’s after they tweeted their support for Black History Month

The supermarket chain declared their allyship with the black community as this year’s Black History Month began on October 1, stating they will ‘not tolerate racism’.

Former Lewis actor Laurence, who has previously spoken out against Black Lives Matter, has now accused Sainsbury’s of ‘segregation’ towards other races.

He tweeted on Sunday: ‘Dear @sainsburys I won’t be shopping in your supermarket ever again whilst you promote racial segregation and discrimination.

‘I sincerely hope others join me. RT #BoycottSainsburys.’

Sainsbury’s has not yet responded to Laurence’s comments but previously made it clear that they were happy for those who do not support their stance on Black History Month to shop elsewhere.

They earlier tweeted: ‘We are proud to celebrate Black History Month together with our Black colleagues, customers and communities and we will not tolerate racism.

‘We proudly represent and serve our diverse society and anyone who does not want to shop with an inclusive retailer is welcome to shop elsewhere.’

They were also quick to shut down one follower who questioned: ‘Where is white history day?’

Sainsbury’s then schooled them on the importance of Black History Month and explained: ‘At present there is no nationally recognised day or month called White History Month and in an ideal world we wouldn’t need a specific month to celebrate any group of people, because we would all be celebrated equally and at all times.

‘Instead it could be said that it is more common for us to celebrate the achievements and historical contributions of white people than any other ethnic or racial group.

‘Therefore to expand our view of the world, it is helpful for us to have specific days and months of focus for other ethnic groups that have been historically marginalised or pressed.’

Laurence, 42, has made controversial comments about the Black Lives Matter movement in recent months, such as stating that he would not kneel in solidarity with protestors due to its ‘master-servant connotations’.

He has since revealed that he received a ‘very threatening phone call’ from a former colleague who criticised his views and refusal to change his position, which he continues to stand by.

Last month, Laurence also announced he had launched a new political party, called Reclaim, which has been described as ‘UKIP for culture wars’.
