Transfer Gossip: Cardiff City agree deal with Bolton Wanderers for Gary Madine

The news Wanderers fans really didn’t want to hear.

According to HITC writer Peter O’Rourke, Bolton Wanderers have agreed a deal with Cardiff City for striker Gary Madine.

Neil Warnock’s side had been interested in Gary Madine at the start of the January transfer window, and had two bids rejected.

Cardiff City seemed to have turned his attention away from Madine, with AFC Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban and Derby County striker Chris Martin the names mentioned.

But, it looks like moves for the pair have hit a wall, so Warnock has targeted Madine once again.

Having had another two bids rejected earlier today, it would seem that Cardiff have finally put forward an amount that Wanderers are happy to accept.

Bolton chairman Ken Anderson said it would take an ‘exceptional’ amount to sell Madine, so let’s hope that is what Wanderers are getting.

Given the fact that Madine is by far the top goalscorer with ten goals and is the focal point of the side, Wanderers surely have a contingency plan in place to properly replace him.

Feyenoord striker Michiel Kramer has been mentioned as a potential target, as has Nottingham Forest youngster Tyler Walker.

The decision to sell Madine could well scupper any chance Wanderers have of staying in The Championship. It’s a ridiculous gamble.
