Sheffield Wednesday manager Tony Pulis will likely be limited to loan moves and free transfers in January, according to journalist Alan Nixon

The Welshman replaced Garry Monk as Owls boss in the November international break but while he has made them into a more solid and structured unit, they remain at the wrong end of the table.

With January approaching, Pulis will likely be hoping to make improvements to his squad in what will be his first transfer window as Wednesday boss but it seems his options may be limited.

Nixon has hinted that the experienced boss may be operating on a small budget and reported he will likely be limited to loan moves and free transfers in the winter transfer window.

Pulis has already outlined his hopes to add some additional quality to his squad when the transfer window opens in less than a month's time.

He told Yorkshire Live that he expects reinforcements but understands that owner Dejphon Chansiri has provided the club with a significant amount of financial support previously.

Which club did Sheffield Wednesday sign each of these 25 players from?

The Verdict

This will likely be a frustrating update for Wednesday fans, who will have been hoping that the club will back Pulis in the upcoming window.

The Owls may yet splash out on one or two players but it seems as though they'll be looking for value with loan moves or free transfers.

There has been an improvement defensively under Pulis but Wednesday still look a little toothless going forward, so you feel that's the area they will look to bolster.
