Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday arrested Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of CM Kerala Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, in connection with the drug bust case here.
Bineesh was taken to the City Civil Court here after interrogation. The ED will demand 4 day custody of Bineesh.
Bineesh arrived at the ED zonal office for interrogation at 11 am. This is the second time Bineesh is appearing before the ED. He was first summoned to the office on October 6.
After Bineesh was interrogated, Anoop Mohammad, another accused in the case, was taken to 5-day custody and questioned at the zonal office. Finding discrepancies in their statements, ED summoned Bineesh again for quizzing.
Though ED had earlier summoned Bineesh for interrogation along with Anoop, the former did not appear citing health issues. ED is looking into the financial deals between Bineesh and Anoop.
Bineesh's name surfaced when Anoop Mohammed was picked up by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Bengaluru. Rs 50 lakh was transferred to Anoop’s bank account from 20 accounts. ED is probing whether the money was transferred as per Bineesh’s instruction and whether he has benami deals in Bengaluru. Bineesh maintained that he and Anoop were friends and he had given him a loan of Rs 6 lakh and another Rs 15,000 since Anoop had no money to return home from Bengaluru. Thereafter, more reports came about Bineesh's business dealings with his friends and close associates.
Last month, the ED had also sent him a notice under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and asked him to give a list of his assets. The ED had also directed the state Registration Department to prepare a list of his assets and see that there was no transfer or sale of his assets without the agency's knowledge.
