Dele has committed his future to Spurs!

After an encouraging loss (but still a loss) to Manchester City in the Premier League yesterday, Tottenham Hotspur fans woke up to some fantastic news on Tuesday — star midfielder Dele Alli has signed a new six year contract with Spurs that will keep him at the north London club through 2024!

Tottenham didn’t sign any players in the summer transfer window (we know), but what they have done a great job of is locking down their existing players to new deals. Dele’s deal is the most high profile yet and follows the new contracts for Mauricio Pochettino, Harry Kane, Davinson Sanchez, Erik Lamela, and Son Heung-Min. Christian Eriksen is also said to be open to negotiations to stay at White Hart Lane.

No details were provided about the terms of the new contract, but Dan Kilpatrick at the Evening Standard reports that it increases Dele’s wages from £50k/week to £90k/week. That still feels low for a player of Dele’s caliber but it puts him at the top of Spurs’ old wage scale before they blew it out of the water when Kane signed his new deal. Presumably there are tons of bonuses and performance escalators in that contract as well, as that tends to be the Daniel Levy way.

This is huge and something to hang your hat on if you, like Pochettino, have been feeling a little down about Spurs this season. It’s worth celebrating!

EDIT: Since his article first posted, Dan “Killy-P” Kilpatrick has since updated the information regarding Dele’s wages, saying now the deal is worth significantly more per week than first indicated. This seems more likely to be accurate, to my mind.
