On the eve of going into administration, Livingston secured a place in their first final thanks to a last-minute penalty from Derek Lilley after Fernando Pasquinelli had been brought down in the box.

Dundee, already in administration, and the West Lothian side, who join them today, were battling for the right to meet Hibernian or Rangers and a £500,000 windfall. It was the Almondvale club who won through before a pitiful crowd.

The stay-aways missed little in the first half. Dundee edged it and had two penalty claims refused. The first came amid claims that Emmanuel Dorado handled a cross and the second when Marvin Andrews and Nacho Novo challenged for a loose ball.

Dundee also forced Roddy McKenzie into a couple of decent saves, from Novo and Garry Brady, whereas all Livingston could muster was a shot from David Fernandez, stopped by Julian Speroni, and an effort from David McNamee, ruled out for offside.

Livingston brought on Pasquinelli and switched to 4-3-3 for the second half and made it difficult for Dundee, but it was another substitute, Steve Milne, who missed an outstanding chance when he burst on to Novo's pass but fired straight at McKenzie. Then, in the dying seconds, Brent Sancho and Lee Mair hesitated going for a through-ball and only combined to bring down Pasquinelli.
