Should Leeds United consider re-signing Alex Mowatt?

Leeds United’s 2014/15 player of the year winner Alex Mowatt did not expect to find himself in League One four years later.

Successive changes in management saw his progress stunted, before Garry Monk sold him in early 2017.

Now with Leeds battling for Championship promotion and needing a player in Mowatt’s position, it’s time to consider bringing the in-form youngster back.

Mowatt lost his way at Leeds, he was shunted around in different positions, out wide and asked to play deep, but as a number 10 he was capable of being outstanding.

He struggled early on at Barnsley, being loaned to Oxford United last year. This season he has become one of the Tykes’ key players.

Mowatt provided two assists at the weekend to take his league tally to five, seven in all competitions.

He scored an excellent goal on the counter attack in the 3-1 win over Bradford, his fourth of the season.

It was the sort of performance which made you wonder how he could improve even further working under Leeds’ managerial magician Marcelo Bielsa.

Mowatt would jump at the chance to rejoin his boyhood club, and work harder than ever.

Leeds need a number 10 to replace Samu Saiz, who has headed back to Spain on loan with Getafe at his request.

Mowatt fits the bill, and his form suggests he deserves consideration for another opportunity at Elland Road.
