According to The Edinburgh Evening News, Scottish Premiership side Hibernian are hoping to reach an agreement with Barnsley over the transfer of Mallan in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that the 22-year-old midfielder has told Barnsley that he is keen on returning to Scotland.
Sunderland missing out?
If Mallan wants to go back to Scotland and Hibernian are ready to make a deal with Barnsley, then it is hard to see Sunderland manager Jack Ross convince the 22-year-old to switch to the Stadium of Light.
True, Ross worked with Mallan at St. Mirren, but if the Scotsman wants to move to Scotland, then the new Sunderland boss will find it hard to change his mind.
Sunderland will be aiming to win promotion from League One to the Championship next season, while Hibernian will be looking to finish second in the Scottish Premiership during the 2018-19 campaign.
