The Major League Soccer side are now being linked with a move for the departing Swansea City defender, as well as Everton striker Rooney.

Departing Swansea City defender Angel Rangel could follow Everton striker Wayne Rooney to DC United this summer.

The American side have been strongly linked with a move for Rooney over the past seven days, and also want Rangel, according to the Sun (May 15th, page 53).

The 35-year-old is leaving Swansea after 11 years of service, following the Welsh side’s relegation from the Premier League, and would be a more straightforward recruit than Rooney, whose Everton contract still has a year to run.

Rangel, however, could yet remain in Europe, with English and Spanish sides keen according to the Sun.

DC United finished bottom of the Eastern Conference last season – 21st out of 22 in MLS overall – and continue to prop up the table eight games into the new campaign.

However, the additions of Rangel and Rooney – who have made 168 and 491 Premier League appearances, for Swansea and Everton/Manchester United respectively – would undoubtedly strengthen Ben Olsen’s options in the second half of the season.

The Black-and-Red’s only designated player is United States international Paul Arriola.
