Osmania University centenary celebrations organised by alumni in Chicago

HYDERABAD: The centenary celebrations of Osmania University, Hyderabad were organised on a grand scale in Chicago, USA in which nearly 700 Osmanians participated on May 14. The alumni came from New York, Houston, San Francisco, Minnesota, and Indiana. Rich tributes were paid to the founder of the university Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad.

Neeta Bhushan, Consul General of India in Chicago said that alumni of Osmania University, who are spread far and wide globally, are its greatest strength. She said that the organizing the centenary celebrations of OU in Chicago was of special significance as Chicago was also known for its academic excellence. She urged the alumni to cultivate a culture of giving back to their alma mater.

Ashfaq Syed, chairman, Steering Committee, ‘Glory of Hyderabad’ organization which organized the celebrations welcomed the gathering. Sami Siddiqi, member, Steering Committee and Mohammed Faheem, another member, spoke on the occasion.

OU vice-chancellor Professor S Ramachandram who participated in the celebrated said the University had become the most preferred destination for higher studies for foreign students.

He advised Indian Americans to send their children to India for pursuing their education so that they reap the dual benefit of high quality education and also get exposure to Indian values.

Congressman Raja Krishnamurthy underscored the need for greater collaboration between the universities of India and the USA. “They have their respective competitive advantages and their networking in the fields of teaching, research, and consultancy will prove to be a win-win proposition,” he said.

Hardik Bhatt, CIO, office of the Governor, Illinois said Illinois and Telangana States had signed an MoU to share expertise in the domain of planning and execution of smart cities and hoped that Osmania University, like University of Illinois, will be a key partner in Illinois’ smart state initiative.

“Glory of Hyderabad, Chicago, has the rare privilege of being the only organization outside of India to host first historic event of Centenary Celebration of Osmania University,” said Mir Khan, President, Glory of Hyderabad.
