Young Athletes Club held their annual Open meeting on Sunday 28th May in glorious sunshine.
It was a fantastic afternoon of athletics with 200 young athletes – most from clubs all over Surrey taking part. For many athletes this was the first time they took part in a proper competition and there was a lot of excitement to see their name appearing on the huge electronic score board at the finish line.
The meeting highlights were:

Names and results on the Justiming scoreboard

London Olympic torch on show for photos

Medals presentations on the podium

Mo Farah supporting and presenting

As organisers, Virginia and Tony and the YAC team of coaches were delighted to see so many great performances from young athletes in all events.
As Virginia says “Our aim is always to provide a positive athletics experience for the youngest U7s right up to the U15s. We have had so many lovely comments back from athletes and parents, we know we achieved that at our Open meeting. The sense of achievement and smiles on faces is our reward for all the hard work in making this event happen”.

Young Athletes Club teams retained their trophy and won gold and silver medals against 5 other Surrey clubs and retained their trophy at the annual Surrey Quadkids Athletics Championships hosted by the home club at Guildford Spectrum Athletics track on Weds 15th June.

As specialists in coaching athletics to young children, Young Athletes Club entered two teams of 10 athletes from their top year 6 squad group. Both the YAC teams showed impressive speed, endurance, jumping and throwing technique as well as great team spirit to take the win and second place in the competition. It was an exciting action-packed and gloriously sunny evening that involved nearly 100 athletes from 7 Surrey clubs including Camberley, Epsom and Ewell, Kingston Kestrels, Reigate Priory and Dorking.

Each athlete had to compete at 4 events plus a relay to win points for their club:
75m sprint, Vortex, Standing long Jump and 600m with their times and distances converted to points based on the UKA Quadkids score system.

There were some amazing individual results amongst the YAC team which deserve a mention:
Seb Moss was the top scoring boy overall with an outstanding total of 271 points, with his best event being the vortex where he threw 37m. Jess Allen was the top performing girl overall with the best 600m time of 1.47mins of the whole competition and standing long jump of 2.07m.
Daniel Baker had the further Vortex throw in the competition with 42.40m. YAC dominated the girls event with 4 of the top scores from Jess, Tileena, Arianna and Alexandra. All athletes contributed to the team success and a win in the relay finished off a very exciting competition for the home team.

Young Athletes Club Open Meeting

Sunday 16th May 2021
Spectrum Track Guildford GU1 1UP

We are delighted to bring you PHOTOS and RESULTS from our fabulous Open meeting on 16th May 2021.
Despite the down-pours we had 200 athletes from Young Athletes Club and from clubs all over Surrey attending who gave it their all and provided us with the most amazing performances that set the track alight!
From the youngest age 5 to the oldest in the U15s invitation 800m, we saw some excellent sprinting, middle distance, jumps and throws and a string of personal bests. Our athletes are clearly happy to be back competing even in the wettest conditions! The atmosphere was buoyant throughout and we have received many messages of thanks.
Thank you to our special team of officials, coaches and helpers who did a brilliant job to make the meeting run so well.
