Bish duo – Laura Rhodes (left) & Ellie Page

David Lloyd 1 wrapped up their season with a comprehensive 72-36 win over Dunnington in division 1 of the FLITL. Fiona White and Debbie Holman bagged 27 games for Lloyd meaning they will finish mid table in their first season back in the top flight. Ellie Page and Laura Rhodes lead Bishopthorpe to victory over York seconds who now look in a precarious position at the bottom of the table. Their rescheduled match against Wigginton looks likely to be a relegation showdown between the two teams.

Starbeck’s strong run continued in division 2 as they trounced Poppleton 79-29; with all three couples making significant contributions, they racked up their games difference which could yet prove significant in their push for promotion. Elsewhere, Fiona Lambert and Andrea Bland were undefeated for Pocklington as they logged a 65-43 win at Castlegarth.

Division 3 champions, Dunnington, were pushed hard by Copmanthorpe, so were indebted to the reliable duo of Sue Sumner and Joyce Rhodes who netted 24 games to see their team home to a 57-51 victory.

Cliffe are confirmed champions of division 4, however, who will go up with them is very much in the balance. Wigginton rounded off their campaign with a comfortable 71-37 win over Sutton, Sandra Burley and Catherine Field taking 29 games for Wig, leaving them in second spot. Tollerton and Heworth fought out a draw, aided by Tollerton’s top scorers Pippa Bailey and Tina Gallon. This leaves both teams equal on points with Wig, but both with a game in hand.

Christine Thomas and Natasia Wisniewka starred for Sheriff Hutton as they took down long term division 7 leaders Stamford Bridge 72-36. The result sees Sheriff leapfrog Bridge into top slot, they are now equal on points, though Bridge have one more match to play.

This season’s Beryl Bean over 55’s Tournament will be held at Wiggington Tennis Club on Sunday 2nd September from 1pm.  Anyone interested in entering should e mail Denise Crane (cranedenisemce@googlemail.com) by August 27th.
