5 in 5 for the YG's

The YG’s secured their 5th straight win against the Woodhouse Grange Academy on Sunday.

Batting first the YG’s set a very competitive total of 215 for 4 from their allotted overs. The foundation was laid by a superb 84 by David O’Kelly, well backed up by Geoff Barker - 19, and Jason Dale, 22.

However, it was the late innings hitting of Salmon Syed with a thunderous 45 not out off just 17 deliveries that gave the total a significant boost. With Will Shaw (13 off 6) they added 57 in 5 overs.

In reply Woodhouse Grange were always held in check by a good bowling display. They were in danger of being bowled out for under a hundred but rallied with two lower order partnerships and reached 167 before the loss of their last wicket.

Another good bowling and fielding performance. The pick of the YG bowlers was Phil Holland with 4 for 29 off 5.5 overs. He was well supported by Mikey Naylor 2-33 off 8 overs, and Richard Exley, 2-36 off 8 overs.

There was a wonderful atmosphere at the ground, with a good crowd enjoying the August Sunshine. Supporters included a sizeable contingent from the O’Kelly clan, who stayed on for a post match BBQ, and the first visit to the ground by our President - Richard Head.

I thing all would agree what a place to play and watch cricket.

Next up the two day game against the Radley Rangers - Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th.
