President’s Message
Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club President
Wow........2013 hard to believe isn’t it! It seems that not very long ago we were all consumed with the coming of the new
millennium and concerned that all of our technology was going to turn inside out at the stroke of midnight on December
31st, 1999.
Many thought just that and prepared for the worst ,nothing untoward happened and now here we are some thirteen years
later and having just passed the so called end of the Mayan calendar we are still ticking along, anyway, a Happy New Year to
you all and may you all have a wonderful year. (continued on page 2)
Computer Club
1pm, Soroptimist Lounge,
Friday, January 11th
Ah, it is time to sit and refl ect on this
past Christmas season. Our family
chose to reduce gift giving to an
absolute minimum this year, which
of course, reduced our stress level
considerably....also noted it was much
kinder on all our wallets. We hope
to make this a yearly habit, and truly
enjoy the “ reason for the season”.Our
December meeting was dedicated to
the Season. Nothing was structured,
so we all partook of the goodies
provided by members, and enjoyed
a general round-table question and
answer period.
Our Club is geared to those using
Windows. The topics vary each month
and can be educational, as well as
entertaining. Each meeting there is a
round-table discussion session, where
everyone is encouraged to bring
forward any questions/problems or
information pertinent to the Club. We
welcome newcomers and visitors,
experienced or not. A current
membership with the Evergreen Club
is the only requirement.Any questions
concerning the Club may be directed
to Roy Tarr @ 250-334-8133 or by
Genealogy
A Happy New Year to all our members
and hope you had a wonderful
Christmas. December isn’t the best
time to be working on our family trees
but hope we can all get back to it once
things are back to normal.
Our club fi nished off the year with
a little party where we brought
goodies to lunch on. As usual we all
enjoyed ourselves. The new year will
be starting off with a bang as Mona
Cashman will be showing us the
ins and outs of navigating our way
searching for our ancestors on the
computer. Familysearch has had many
changes and new material added to
it and can be a little confusing....at
least for me. Therefore, I’m looking
forward to our next meeting which
will take place Thursday, January 17th
at 1 p.m. in the Soroptomist Lounge.
Old and new members are most
welcome. I hope to see you there.
Table Tennis
We at the Table Tennis Club wish
everyone a very Happy Christmas
and a safe Happy New Year. We have
welcomed 6 new members in the last
few months, all who appear to have
some foundation in Table Tennis.
As pointed out, experience is not
necessary but delightful when you
have it as all is required is practice to
refi ne it. You pay .75¢ - balls & bats
supplied.
On December 15th, 12 or so members
met at the White Spot to celebrate
Christmas and it was fun.
We also had a Table Tennis Party in the
Rotary Hall on December 18th. This
party was mainly to thank Campbell
River for their great support this past
year as there would not be a club
without them.
And for Cliff who is fi ghting his
courageous battle – our thoughts and
Brazilian Embroidery
We are sure many of you viewed the
YANA Christmas trees at the Drift wood
Mall and took particular interest in one
that was decorated by the Evergreen
Brazilian Embroidery group and their
associated group VIBES, Black Creek.
Our members put in many hours
creating a great variety and number of
handmade ornaments with which to
decorate the tree. Special thanks to
Darlene who coordinated this project.
The tree sold for just under $400.00,
dollars that will be used by YANA to
support their charitable eff orts.
Prior to breaking for Christmas and
New Years members attended a
Christmas lunch at the Monte Cristo
and I understand this was enjoyed
by all. It doesn’t seem possible that
when the group next gets together it
will be 2013!
While the Valley has been getting
snow, we’ve been getting rain
in Arizona. The locals aren’t
complaining, but quite the opposite,
as rain was last received in September
and that was just 1/2”. As I write
this we are enjoying the annual golf
cart parade, carts are decorated for
Christmas and drive through the
development honking their horns –
one way of making the desert seem
more “Christmasy”!
We hope all enjoyed Christmas and
have a happy, healthy 2013!
followed. Miriam stood down as our leader and she will be missed. We are pleased to welcome Ellen Whitelaw as our new
Meet & Greet Singles Coordinator. Under the capable, dependable leadership and with the support of all the members, the
group will continue to thrive and be increasingly successful.
Thank you to my dear friends in the Singles for your thoughtful gift s. The Hugging Pillow is very unique. Thanks a million Love
You. Miriam.
The Evergreen Club Christmas luncheon was very well attended by our singles.
The Courtenay Seniors Live Radio Troupe performed Dickens timeless classic “A Christmas Carol” to a packed audience at
The year fi nished off with another delightful performance by Courtenay Little Theatre of “The Magic Tinderbox”.
Mah-jongg
We hope everyone had a great
Christmas holiday. Another year has
rolled by quite quickly and we’re all
songs and were greatly appreciated.
We shall dearly miss both of them.
January will be a trip around the
world. The songs will make everyone
wish they were at the diff erent spots,
especially where it is warm and sunny.
Ah, well, we’ll just have fun singing
well she can share her knowledge of the duties required with ease. Pat attributes
this to her lifelong experience of volunteering in many community kitchens, be
it with the church auxiliary, the community hall, or service groups. Her fellow
volunteers always appreciate her smiling face along with her friendly and helpful
attitude. Pat says she enjoys the camaraderie of working with such a great team of
dedicated volunteers. Thank you and congratulations, Pat - the Evergreen Club is
lucky to have you!
