Chairman’s Notes - Jim Lyon 

The winter months have seen a few role changes at 

the club. I have taken on the role of chairman while 

we also have a new first-team captain in Elliott Forde. 

On behalf of everyone at Isham, I should first thank Bill 

Chudley for his incredible contribution to the club. Having 

been chairman for well over a decade he has helped put 

us in a strong position and no one should underestimate 

the amount of work he and Sarah have put in. We, 

hopefully, reflected our gratitude for their efforts by 

making both of them honorary life members at the 

annual dinner. Even in the few months I have been 

chairman I know how much time it takes up and for Bill to 

have done the job for so long shows amazing dedication. 

Those first few months have not been the easiest. We 

have had prolonged negotiations over the new lease 

for ground which have attracted a lot of attention. The 

details have been agreed now but unfortunately we 

do find ourselves needing to raise a lot more money 

to cover a higher rent and the ever-increasing bills we 

face. Because of that we are so grateful to our loyal 

supporters, vice-presidents and sponsors who help to 

keep the club alive. Times are increasingly tough and 

we appreciate all the help we can get. 

On the pitch we can hopefully have a strong season. 

Elliott is intent on bringing on many of the quality 

younger players we have at the club which is an 

essential step in making sure we are a strong outfit 

in the years to come. I wish him all the best and hope 

everyone gets behind him and backs him to do well. 

Finally, I would like to thank all the volunteers we have 

at the club. We are lucky to have such a number of 

dedicated workers who all want the club to thrive on 

and off the pitch and give up so much of their time. 

Without them Isham Cricket Club would not be the 

wonderful place it is. Good luck for 2017 and thank you 

all for your support.

1st XI Skipper - Elliott Forde 

The 2016 season was a tough year that couldn’t 

have been more opposite to the previous season’s 

successes and promotion challenges. 

However the year ended on a high as the 1st XI 

ensured the clubs Division One status for another 

season. We’d like to say a big thank you to the 

contribution of Devon Singh-Parhar to the club across 

all formats and off the field and would like to wish him 

every success moving forward as he looks to forge 

himself a career in the game. 

Moving forward into 2017 we have several challenges 

and hurdles in front of us but none of which are 

insurmountable for any player, team or supporter. 

The first point is to say thank you to George Chudley 

who is stepping down as 1st XI captain after a 

promotion winning year in 2013 followed by two 

strong challenges in the Division One promotion 

race in the following years. George will still be an 

important figure in the 1st XI and will be able to 

make strong contributions with the bat and impart 

the knowledge he has gained over the course of 

the last few seasons. 

Having mentioned 2013, it would only be right to 

mention Adam Somerfield, our 100 wicket man in that 

particular season. He has been hard at work forging 

the beginnings of a relationship with ourselves and 

his district side, Tea Tree Gully. We can look forward 

to Ben Atkinson another TTG opening bowler coming 

over for the 2017 season. I am sure Ben will add an 

awful lot to the club on and off the field as we look to 

mount a stronger challenge this year.

2nd XI Skipper - Ben Reid 

Doesn’t time fly!! 

So it’s that time of the year again when we dust 

ourselves down, emerge from hibernation and extract 

our mouse eaten cricket kit from winter storage. 

Last season we finished a ‘comfortable’ 5th place 

without ever seriously threatening the promotional 

slots and although this time around the personnel 

has slightly changed, what we lack in young legs and 

enthusiasm we more than make up for with experience 

and deep heat!! As ever we will be aiming for a top 2 

finish and promotion in to division 5. 

Finally I would just like to thank Chris Tiney for his 

continued support in the dual role of umpire and team 

councillor and all those wives, girlfriends, mothers and 

grandmas who provide us with a fantastic selection of 

cricket teas.

Zingari Skipper - Kishor Parmar 

The 2016 season started promisingly - we won our 

first game against Irthlingborough - but ultimately 

the Zingari finished mid-table in Division 13, 

winning six games out of 12. 

Our youth players contributed heavily, playing brilliant 

cricket with enjoyment, so the future looks bright for 

Isham Cricket Club. 

It seems some of the senior members are enjoying their 

retirement from cricket and spending more time with 

their wives!!! Now I have decided to follow suit so 2017 

will be my last season. 

Myself and our well known senior coach Dave Hobbs 

will share the on-field captaincy and David Kerr will be 

vice-captain for coming season. 

Finally, I would like to say very big thank you to all the 

players for their support in making the Zingari team a 

great success. 

And let’s not forget all the ladies who support us (and 

make fantastic teas) throughout the season. 

Also we need to thank the groundsman at Little 

Harrowden, Dave Wallis, for his hard work preparing 

grounds for us for the last seven years. 

Good luck to all teams for the 2017 season.

Youth Cricket - David Hobbs 

Youth cricket is prospering at Isham and it is encouraging to see many of our young 

players develop and appear in the senior sides as well as represent our District 

and County squads. The youth section is the building blocks to ensuring Isham CC 

continues to provide cricket for all. Hopefully Isham will be providing cricket for 

the community for many, many years to come. 

The forthcoming season promises to be an exciting one as, once again, we enter teams 

at all four age groups in the Higham League and we hope to compete well at all ages. 

The under-nines again have Simon Court and Chris Long as their mentors for the year 

to show them the basics and will no doubt be getting them match ready for the Kwik 

Cricket tournaments that are held throughout the season. 

Elsewhere, the coaching staff has been re-shuffled and are pleased to announce that Ben 

Reid will be this year’s under-11s manager. Ben has been assisting the squads for a few 

years now and we wish him all the best in his debut season as their manager and coach. 

Moving into the under-13s role will be Tim Robinson. As we enter into this age group 

the game changes slightly with the introduction of LBW, a 21-yard wicket, 11 a-side 

matches and, the biggest change of all, when you’re out - you stay out! 

David Hobbs will be the under-15s’ manager for this year. Having started with the ‘17s’ 

way back in 2004, David has almost gone full circle having led sides at 11 and 13 and 

now completes the set. 

David Kerr will be manager of the under-17s squad having impressed at the age below 

for the last few years. Although this is a tricky age range - with exams playing a large 

part in availability - I am sure with Dave’s boundless enthusiasm and energy he and 

his team will be fighting all the way. We wish all our youth sides the best of luck for the 

coming season. 

We are pleased to welcome Australian Ben Atkinson as our overseas player for 2017 and 

hopefully he can add a new dimension to training and put us through our paces Aussie 

style. Thanks must go to the ground staff who maintain and prepare our wickets to a 

high standard, to the coaches and managers, and to all the other volunteers within the 

youth set-up who make Isham a superb place for their child. 

Special thanks to our Welfare officer Zoe Robinson who ensures that the youth have a 

safe environment in which to play and enjoy the game of cricket. We are always keen to 

welcome any new players - as well as potential coaches and managers - so please come 

and join us. Go Red Caps!

The Club holds Coaching & Practice sessions on 

WEDNESDAY evenings, starting at 6:30pm for the 

Under 15s & 17s and on FRIDAY evenings starting 

at 6pm for Under 9s, 11s and U13s. U17s are also 

welcome to train with the senior sides on TUESDAY 

& FRIDAY. We welcome all interested youngsters 

from the age of seven, regardless of ability or 

gender. Parents of all children are welcome to stay, 

but we ask that parents of children under the age 

of 11 remain at the club whenever possible.
