Chairman’s GLSE Report:
All going well and looking forward to the start of the new season.
Chairman’s Southern Report:
The 2011 season has started: The Southern Region will have all the regular events combined
with GLSE. We place all our news & events on the regional web site www.glse-southern.co.uk all
the events and news are added as soon as we have details.
Development Directorate: Richard will attend the next meeting on 31 March. There has not
been an All Regions meeting this year & I’m waiting for a date for the next meeting.
The Southern & GLSE: Clubs are set to host all the favourite events again:
London Night jump at Liquid Leisure, Denham 3 rd slalom, evening slaloms & Seaton at JBSki,
Regional’s at JBSki Thorpe, BDWSA have events planned; there were many Cable & club events
and all the league events.
Southern & GLSE cables: Some of the cable clubs are adding more obstacles & training.
These will add more variety to the cable circuit & club competition.
Club Ladder trophy: The trophy has become very sought after. Last year the top boy was from
Liquid Leisure and the top girl from Fairford. We have over 400 skiers on the ladder & most of
them don’t enter league events.

Club Ladder: This will start again in April. You don’t need to kill yourself to get a score in the first
month! Most club skiers produced good scores in the mid season warm weather. The rules
remain the same; Score is off the dock, just like normal comps. It can be from a practice set or
league score. You need to get your club driver to set the boat up & use standard league speed,
weight & rope lengths. Many club boats run Zero Off or Perfect Pass now but if yours is manual
make sure the times are correct. 14 clubs sent in scores for their members last season and some
just e-mailed personal scores to me. Join in and it might tempt you to enter a league comp and
get your name on the BWSW standings list. You can also win a trophy for the most improved
skier.
Kids coaching & Development: The Cutting edge event were well attended last season.
Southern & GLSE hope to have teams for the annual competition again this year. Church Wilne
will host the 2011 event 20-21 August. Please send Richard Mattos the names of your juniors
who would like to join the regional teams. We need at least 8 for a team.
Free Cutting Edge kneeboard training at your own site, in preparation for the Cutting Edge Boat
competition. For more information please call 01932 579933.
All Regions team 3 event: The All regional event is for league skiers. Each region sends a team.
Runs bi-annually. The next one is 2012. I will be looking for team members very soon. Let us
know if you want to be on the list
Judge training: Jill Howard will be looking for new judges. No date yet, so if you know of
anybody who wants to have a go, point them in our direction.
Inter Club competitions: We had some new teams last year. Many of the skiers have now had a
go at some league events. Dates listed at the bottom.
Facebook: Has now become a good way to keep in touch with skiers! As with all these sites the
content can be seen by many, so please watch what you post! It might seem funny at the time but
it could be seen by team selection / sponsors in the future.
Webcasts: There were some very good webcasts last season. If you know of any events being
covered then let us know. We can then add them to our website.
Young Volunteer of the year: Steve Plumridge (from Denham) won this award in 2010. He was
a great help running the Cutting Edge team and he supported the team at the comp. A final
personal thank you to all who voted for Richard as volunteer of the year, he made it into the top 5
but didn’t win
BWSW Report:
Cutting Edge: This year there are two competitions as follows:
Cable Competition – 10 July at JBSki, Surrey
Boat Competition – 20-21 August at Church Wilne Watersports Club, Derbyshire
Volunteers: A new volunteer recognition scheme is about to be launched – Cutting Edge
Rewards. People can sign up for a free online Active Passport to track their volunteer hours and
gain recognition for them. This is ideal for young people.
Voluntary Clubs accreditation: BWSW are working with the Sport England programme
Clubmark this is an accreditation for clubs with junior members. Gaining Clubmark can aid in
gaining funding and also working with school and youth groups. Clubmark clubs can also collect
the Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers. For more information www.clubmark.org.uk

Magazine: The magazine is always looking for content ideally with high quality photos to go with
the story. Please send in stories from your clubs to editor@bwsf.co.uk please see the magazine
for further information.
Club reports
Ellingham:
They are preparing 1 or 2 teams for the inter club competition this year from Ellingham. Our aim
will be to enter a gents and a ladies team, however at this early stage we can give no guarantees
that both teams will compete in all events.
JBSki:
New funbox is already being made for the cable, boat lake open as usual with John Battleday
driving and coaching.
The Arena was open 3-4 days per week, weekends stayed busy but as usual the mid week was
quieter.
The Cable opened on Wednesday and Sundays, We had 10 University clubs mainly boarding on
the Wednesday, a members session on Sunday mornings and were pleased to see lots of
regulars as well as some new riders in the afternoon.
On Saturday 26 th March we had a Pig competition on the cable, all the universities entering teams
and enjoying the day
As it warms up we are extending the number of days and hours we open and looking forward to a
busy, hopefully warm Summer.
We are holding a number of competitions behind the boat and on the cable, we try to get a mix of
events to encourage new competitors as well as the more experienced.
Driving and the new National Level 2 Coaching Courses have helped keep me busy in the week,
we are also now offering a new Instructors course to bring people to the correct ability to attend
the new National Level 2 Courses
Wiremill:
Nothing to report apart from the lake has been frozen for a few months.
Liquid Leisure:
Liquid Leisure has had a very productive winter with the boat and cable lakes running in to early
December, only closing due to snow and ice and the club had planned a shutdown in January for
decoration of the club house & changing rooms and ground work around the cable. The boat lake
re-opened at the beginning of February with a new lick of paint and a few hardy members coming
out of hibernation to get a head start on their fair weather skiers.
A new Nautique 200 has already been delivered to the club and ready for the start of the season.
The 2011 season starts on Friday 1 April and the cable will open every day from this date. The
very popular Love Jam returns on Saturday 30 April, please check Facebook and the LLSki
website for more details on entries and timings.
Lake Side Health and Fitness, a new gym located on the site, is open for business 7 days a week
and owned and managed by Personal Trainer Neil Shannon. Shannon has created a new fitness
programme to help pre-season skiers and wakeboarders on Tuesday and Thursday evenings
from 19:30. Please see Lake Side Health and Fitness on Facebook or get in touch with Neil
Shannon for more details. www.neilshannon.co.uk
Now in its tenth year, the London Night Jump is back to its Bank Holiday weekend slot and will
once again light up the night skies of Datchet on Sunday 29 August. This is not an event to be
missed, so please put the date in your diary now and spread the word amongst your friends as
there are so many other extreme sporting activities to watch. With other competitions, like

member slalom and inter club slalom comps taking place throughout the year, keep updated from
the Liquid Leisure website. www.llski.com
Rickmansworth:
Rachel Aldington wished to minute that Rachel Tallon from BWSW has been absolutely fantastic
with Rickmansworth lake environmental issues and bank erosion. Water level is too high as the
fishing club always want a high level lake. They are waiting to hear from the council to see what
their decision is. Wiremill have lots of reeds and seedlings that Rickmansworth could use.
Langstone Harbour:
Nothing to report from LHWSA as it’s our closed season until 1 st April.
Denham Water Ski Club:
New Nautique 200 arriving soon, replacing the one from last year. Permission for a new building
to house the new boat as the 200 doesn’t fit in the old boathouse.
Kent Boat & Ski Club:
A.G.M.was held in February and fairly well attended. The club is on a sound financial footing,
although we have noticed our outgoings are rising so a careful eye is being kept on that issue.
S.B.D.A.’s are quiet at the moment due to the time of year and nearly all of our boat drivers are
qualified already. 50th Celebrations, the first event, The Brass Monkey Trophy, was enjoyed by
all, with about 50 attending, with 7 hardy skiers all followed by refreshments in the clubhouse.
Next event is a social evening on 7th May at the K.B.S.C. clubhouse
Theale:
Updating the site over the winter, and opening early April. We’re putting fat sacks in to one of the
boats with fast pumps.
Kneeboarders!
We are currently in talks with a couple of new sites with a view to holding a competition late
July/early August so we will let you have details as soon as we receive confirmation from either of
these sites.
The Freestyle event has been brought back by popular demand following the Rider Cup event in
the USA. This year we have decided to tow the event behind the tour boat, with one extra fat sac.
If there is sufficient demand we may look at obtaining a wakeboard boat for next season, so if you
are interested in this, please sign up for the event at Treeton! This is a great way to push
kneeboarding to the next level, with an opportunity for the top riders to try out new and bigger
tricks, as well as for riders of any ability to experience tricking on a big wake!
You will see that a training day is available this season on the day before the Nationals at
Humber Bridge – training days are limited availability and places will be allocated on a first come,
first served basis, so get your training forms in early to secure your place.
Once again, please ensure that entry forms are returned in good time before the first competition,
and we will see you all at Pentney.
For any further information, please contact either Mark (mark@msgarnett.fsnet.co.uk) or Brian
(brianrook@aol.com ).
Barefoot:
African Championships held at Action Watersports in Lydd Kent, last summer. The members of
