If a clock on a steeple takes ten seconds to strike the hour often , how long will it take to strike 12. Think about it, the answer is not 12 seconds.Dodie A was amazed that some puzzlers cannot or will not admit that a rise of £50every half year is better than a rise of £200 ever year. Let Charlie be an Englishmanwho is employed at a salary of £5000 a year. He is told that he is due a £200 rise atthe end of the year. His pay will then be £5200. At the end of the second year it willbe £5400, rising by the same increments to £5600 in the third year and £5800 by theend of the fourth. His mate an Irishman called Paddy was stupid enough to accept arise of £50 every half year. For the first six months he took home £2500, the sameas his English partner., before his rise was due when his pay went up to £2550. Hewas thus £50 better off than the more clever English bloke; not only that but hewas due a rise of £50 for the first six months of his second year meaning that hewas now on £2600. For the second part of the second year he received another riseof fifty pounds so he now drew £2650 which meant he was again fifty pounds aheadof his partner. In fact he was always £50 per annum better off and they say thatthe Irish are thick – I ask you. 8Over the past two years, however, the slump in local industry has had a majoreffect on sales so that the decision was taken over a month ago to close the branch.Performance of a branch, he explained, was not judged against a branch of a similarsize but on how much had been sold in previous years. He explained that the decision to open in Buckie was taken two years agowhen the economy had been considerably healthier but added that once the difficultspell, we are going through at present, is over I think there should be a reasonablefuture in Buckie for both Leicester and ourselves.Advert - Cox – Fish/COFROST, March Road.We now sell fish daily, fresh and frozenAdvert - Longmore Taxis – Now radio controlled. He was looking at a photograph of his son Dodie says it maybe made clearer if one takes the statement in two parts - “That man’s father - ismyself” and then “My father’s son - is also myself “Dodie A has also given the answer to the clock question if taking ten secondsto strike ten how long would it take to strike twelve. He agreed that it was not soobvious as would first appear. The point in (he says) is that the time factor operates immediately the clock strikesits initial ‘dong’ so that one does not count. The question really boils down to “If aclock takes ten seconds to cover NINE INTERVALS how long will it take to cover 11?The answer is eleven and 1/9 th second.Mar 17 Now no way over Mill of Buckie bridge - The bridge over the Buckie Burnbetween the end of Highfield Road and the farm of Mill of Buckie the state of which hasgiven concern for some time has now been completely closed off.Mr Craib of Wester Gauldwell Farm.
