HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Today we’re Cruisin’ Connecticut to Hamden to learn the ropes of synchronized swimming with the Hamden Heronettes!

Synchronized swimming takes the strength and power of a weight lifter, the agility of a track athlete and the grace of a ballerina. As you’ll see… I have none of those attributes.

But the talented group of swimmers with the Heronettes, they’re making a splash! The team has been around for 46 years, and for coach Melissa Cowan, her love for the sport was instant:

I actually came to one of the water shows back when I was in the 7th grade. I saw synchro and I just fell in love with it. I swam in high school and I decided to come and coach, and this is my 7th year coaching.

The Heronettes have a new swimmer clinic on September 12th. New swimmers that join the club, eventually work their way to “age group”, where they compete in nationals.
