Under 16 Girls match report

U16 Girls - Lansdown 0 - Wotton Under Edge 6
I'm not even going to try to compete with Dave Baton's impressive write ups.... but it was a very impressive performance from the U16 Girls who gave a full strength Lansdown very little time to settle on the pitch.
The first 10 minutes promised a well balanced game with play moving from end to end, with some lovely skills and strong play from the Lansdown side, game on! The Wotton defence settled quickly with strong working back down the flanks by Bailey Jones and Olivia Milne, and solid tackling and reading of the Lansdown players by Sophie King and Rosie Brown. The Wotton midfield engine soon kicked into gear and some lovely possessional play by Eliza Reynolds and well worked interlinking play between Niamh Keane, Alice Hayward and Freya Wallace supplied the forward line of Anya Erasmus and Fran Barton with a host of chances that went close to both posts and forced numerous saves from the Lansdown keeper.
The first goal came from a strong drive into the D by Wallace, which deflected off a defenders stick past the goalkeeper. It didn't take long for Erasmus to convert one of her many skilful runs into a well taken goal, and then have a great run to supply Millie Ames, who took her goal nicely. Lydia Poole continued the attacking play upfront with great flanking play from Francesca Benjamin. Just before half time Barton moved nicely off a strong midfield run to place herself well for another goal for Wotton - 4-0 up at half time.
The 2nd half saw a resurgent Lansdown test the Wotton defence, but lovely composure from Charlotte Mandefield, and some well picked tackles from Ella Townsend smothered many attacks. Lansdown were persistent and forced some typically great goalkeeping from Ella King who was really never going to concede a goal. Wotton got back into gear for the last 15 minutes, and Erasmus continued to break the Lansdown lines many times scoring twice more.
Final Result 6-0 to Wotton.
