Worthing Indoor Bowls Club

The new membership year and the Winter Season commenced on October 1st.

Competition Draws for all Club Competition are on the website. The various leagues began in Early October allowing triples or fours to be played most days of the week. To give those a little slower off the block we introduced another league on a Tuesday which started in December. Another new venture for 2023-24, is the introduction of an Australian Pairs League. We have 20 teams competing fortnightly in 2 divisions. As usual we expect our Aggregate and Spoon sessions will all be full to bursting and are a real strength of the club.

We have rationalised our approach to Friendlies and these will only take place on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We now feel our members appetite for playing Friendlies against other clubs has grown again and we look forward to this progressing further over time. The WIBC Mens County League side are looking forward to replicating and maybe improving on last years second place.
We had success for our Women too in 2022-23 Ladies Captain Maz Howe won the Sussex Women’s Indoor Unbadged Singles.
We also now have a Bowls World Champion playing at our club. Lorraine Kuhler was one of the England team who won Gold in the Fours World Championships played in Australia in the summer of 2023. It is a privilege to have such a talented player as a member of our club. Lorraine now also manages the National U25's Women's team.

It is now over a year since the club put in place an air conditioning system which is modern and more cost effective to run. The new system has ionising filters - a further improvement on the UV filters installed the previous year, these devices clean the air of bacteria and viruses as an added safety feature for our members and visitors.

Enjoy the 2023-24 season, thanks to all of you, we have a progressive forward looking club, but we cannot be complacent and are seeking to take on board at least 60 new members this season.

We will be allocating time on Tuesdays and Sundays to bring in prospective members for free training and preparation for becoming active bowlers at our club. We already have a team of ‘helpers’ to run these sessions - if you would like to be part of that team talk to any of the Bowls Committee or one of the office team

Enjoy your time as a member at Worthing Indoor Bowls Club. Despite the challenges of living with COVID-19 we are able to continue to offer safe leisure and competitive sport for bowlers of all ages and abilities.

As a responsible club we have also had an eye to the financial stability of the club and have had to make some price increases to make sure we do not fall victim to the inflation which is gripping the UK. Like each and everyone of us - power - electricity and gas bills are a major concern - but we have been prudent and with continued careful management we will see our way through.

WE ARE PROUD OF OUR CLUB and PROUD TO HAVE YOU ALL AS MEMBERS TOO

A Dales, indoor authorised, motorised chair, for the use of any member requiring assistance to get from end to end of the rink, is now available. Use is of course dependent on the member going through a period of training and familiarisation with the chair. Please contact Alan Messer for more details. 3 members are already enjoying using the chair.
