A star-studded list of competitors will descend on Warilla, NSW, Australia for the sport’s next international event, the 2023 World Bowls Indoor Championships.
Host club, Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club and Bowls Australia are collaborating with World Bowls and the International Indoor Bowls Council to bring this international event to life for just the second staging ever, with an unquestionably strong line-up of competitors.
Extensive planning is presently underway for the eagerly anticipated event, which will see athletes from 35 nations competing; 33 men and 29 women will be motivated to win the coveted world titles.
Competing in this year’s event is Daniel Salmon, Wales’ back-to-back Commonwealth Games men’s pairs gold medallist, while Norfolk Island’s 24-year-old Shae Wilson will attempt to claim the women’s crown.
Pundits will look to home-nation heroes Aron Sherriff and Kelsey Cottrell as the pre-tournament favourites, with the duo set to have a target planted firmly on their backs from the remainder of the field.
The most recent competition which has rebranded to the inaugural World Bowls Indoor Championships previously named ‘World Cup’, was held in 2022 in Bristol, England and was won by Scotland’s champions Michael Stepney and Julie Forrest .
A sizable Australian audience of spectators is anticipated to attend, while digital coverage is planned to deliver the finals action across the last two days of the competition, with live-streaming on World Bowls’ Facebook page.
