Warwick Washingtonville Ice Hockey Club players take spotlight in games

— The Washingtonville Ice Hockey Club, an organization primarily composed of players from the Washingtonville and Warwick, hosted four games at Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh over the last weekend of October.
Despite the mixed results, players Jacob Branch and Jack Vander Plaat sounded meaningful buzzers and goalie Ricky Palmeri made his JV debut.
VarsityWIHC’s Varsity, lead by Head Coach Bob McGrath and Assistants Bob Eisenhauer and Jon Branch, went head-to-head against the Saugerties Mustangs at Ice Time Sports Complex in Game 1, on Saturday, Oct. 27, winning 4-3. Wizards Andrew Godfrey, Brendan McGrath, Dean Soutar and Jacob Branch, who scored the game-winning goal, all hit the back of the net in a very intense match.
Goalie Ryan Troy would save 23 of 26 shots.
In Game 2 against the Arlington Admirals on Sunday, Oct. 28, they fought a tight game through the first two periods, coming in short at 3-2 with Wizards Tyler Schwerdtfeger and William Connolly sounding the buzzer.
Goalie Ryan Whitchurch saved 24 shots.
Junior VarsityWIHC’s JV, lead by Head Coach Chris Deftereos and Assistants Steve Den Bleyker and Chris Roe, faced the Saugerties Mustangs at Ice Time Sports Complex in Game 1, on Saturday, Oct. 27, falling 4-1 in a penalty intense match.
Wizard Jack Vander Plaat would sound the buzzer alone, pinching up from defense and taking the puck all the way home, ending any opportunity for a shut- out.
Goalies Ricky Palmeri and Ryan Whitchurch would share the net, denying a total of 18 shots between the two.
In the game against Arlington (Maroon) at Ice Time, in Game 2, on Sunday, Oct. 28, they would battle intensely through three periods.
Cam Longo scored the Wizard's goal in the 7-1 loss.

The clubWashingtonville Ice Hockey Club is part of the Hudson Valley High School Ice Hockey Association, consisting of high school teams from Orange and Dutchess County.
Its purpose is to provide its members will endeavor to provide for all young men and women of the Washingtonville, Warwick and a few other surrounding communities the format and opportunity to learn and play ice hockey at various age and skill levels.
Charter and Articles for the club were proposed and adopted on May 26, 1994.
