VIDA Badminton Club say they are “extremely proud” to have become the town’s first ever Badminton England Premier Club.

The Orford Jubilee-based club will now have access to more support and funding from the sport’s governing body and Sport England, who have awarded them ClubMark accreditation.

Paul Hawgood, one of the club’s coaches, says the hard work and dedication of club volunteers has finally been rewarded.

“We’re obviously extremely proud to receive this honour,” he said.

“The Warrington & District Badminton League was founded in 1949, so to be the first club in the town to achieve this since then is very pleasing.”

Another perk of the award for the club and its members is access to tickets for the All England Open Badminton Championships, the world’s oldest and most prestigious badminton tournament.

The club had to satisfy a number of criteria involving activity planning, duty of care and welfare, integrating the club in the community and club management.

Vida currently has around 60 members aged from eight upwards and train on Monday evenings between 8pm and 10pm at Orford Jubilee Hub.
