25 Looks That Prove Angelina Jolie Was Destined to Work in Fashion
Angelina Jolie first walked the red carpet at the Academy Awards in 1986 when she was just 10 years old and has since appeared at countless premieres, film festivals and press conferences. Jolie has always forged her own approach to styling, from wearing her then-husband Billy Bob Thornton’s blood in a vial around her neck to the red carpet in 2001 to the viral thigh-high black gown she wore to the Oscars in 2012.
While dresses from Versace, Marc Bouwer and Randolph Duke featured in her formal wardrobe throughout the ’90s and ’00s, in her later life, the multi-hyphenate has expressed a commitment to slow fashion.
“Enjoying your vintage pieces, if you have them, and rediscovering some vintage shops seems like part of the way forward,” Jolie, who also regularly lends her daughters looks from her own archive, told British Vogue in her March 2021 cover interview. “I don’t change things often, you know? That’s one of my things.”
Recently, it was announced that she is launching her own purpose-driven namesake brand, Atelier Jolie, which will kick off with a collaboration with Chloé. “I’m starting something new today – a collective where everyone can create… Atelier Jolie is a place for creative people to collaborate with a skilled and diverse family of expert tailors, pattern makers, and artisans from around the world,” she wrote in a caption on Instagram. “It stems from my appreciation and deep respect for the many tailors and makers I’ve worked with over the years, a desire to make use of the high-quality vintage material and deadstock material already available and also to be part of a movement to cultivate more self-expression.”
The ultimate inspiration for Jolie’s new venture? Her own wardrobe. Here, Vogue looks back at some of the actor’s best looks.
