Phoenix Junior Badminton Club Award Icon Runner Up

Durham

The Phoenix Badminton Club was founded in November 2007 and celebrated TEN years as a community club last year. It began with a membership of 12 with one session and has grown to 45 members with two sessions on a Friday evening. The club has achieved Badminton England Premier Club status and has recently moved to a new venue in Meadowfield Leisure Centre.

The Club has five qualified coaches working on a Friday two Level 2 coaches and three Level 1 coaches. All of the Level 1 coaches are club members and still play at the club and now have taken on a coaching role. There are also three volunteers that help with the sessions that the club provides..

The club coach children from the age of seven to eighteen in all aspects of the sport of Badminton. The coaches deliver technical and tactical sessions as well as teaching the rules and regulations of the sport such as court etiquette and scoring a game.

The club will start the new season in September and wants to supply our members with new club kit. The kit will be partly funded with this grant, a grant from Badminton England and money raised from a 12 hour badminton marathon where members raised money through sponsorship.also

The £250 grant will also allow the club to purchase new shuttles for the season starting in September 2018
