Fifty students graded and more than 80 spectators attended.
Students graded in aikido, jodo and self-defence.
Competitions were held in karate, sumo and ground work.
Congratulations to the students who battled hard.
Excellent attendance awards went to Crosby Patterson, Jai Jennings, Jasper Hollands-Smith, Mallachi Hollands-Smith and Jonah De Salis.
These five students train three sessions or more each week.
The improvement award went to Ziad Eltogby and Jason Crocker.
The encouragement award went to Grace Donnelly, Feinna Schaap and Emma Murphy.
The effort award went to Dominic Nastasio, Neil Smith and Jai Jennings.
This grading saw the first grading for the self-defence class.
All students were awarded their yellow belt. Well done.
The day had two Dan grades awarded.
Jonah De Salis was award his first Dan (black belt) in aikido and jodo and Darren Smith was awarded his 2nd Dan (black belt) in aikido. Congratulations to both.
Head Sensei Mick Smalley, 8th Dan jodo, 8th Dan aikido, 8th Dan judo, 2nd Dan kendo, 4th Dan karate, was pleased to see many students grade.
Sensei Mick started the school in Milton in 1988, making it the longest established martial arts centre on the South Coast.
He has trained many judo and kendo champions.
Sensei Mick teaches aikido. Aikido is translated as the Way of Harmony.
It is a fighting system that focuses on throws, pins and joint locks together with some striking techniques.
It is a devastating powerful martial art.
Jodo is a term used in Japan for short staff techniques, Sensei Mick teaches jodo katas.
The Senior Self-defence class concentrates on basic self-defence techniques.
It incorporates aikido, karate, jodo and judo.
This class is open to both male and females 15 years and over.
Sensei Mick also offers private lessons.
Sakura Bana Budo offers women the chance to do a short 2 hour course in self-defence. This course is run every eight weeks on a Sunday afternoon.
It aims to provide you with a life skill, it teaches you techniques to protect yourself, teaches attitudes and strategies to survive an attack, teaches awareness, effective strikes, effective targets, exit strategies and much more.
